Lazy Eye is a medical condition characterized by reduced vision in one eye. Lazy Eye is usually caused by abnormal visual development early in life. The weaker or the lazy eye often wanders inward or outward. Symptoms are:
• An eye that wanders inward or outward
• Eyes that appear not to work together
• Poor depth perception
• Squinting or shutting an eye
• Head tilting
• Abnormal results of eye screening tests
HOW IS LAZY EYE DIAGNOSED?
Regular eye screening will help in diagnosing the condition. Regular eye check ups are essential in children who are at a risk.
HOW IS LAZY EYE TREATED?
Treatment for this problem includes helping the child to wear patches so that he/ she is able to see from the lazy eye. Doing so helps in sending signals to the brain to start using this eye more. It could be a long process but is usually successful. Glasses would also be given for improving focus.
