Keratosis is an abnormal growth on the skin which is not harmful health wise but may look very unsightly. These are harmless but very similar to melanoma in appearance which is a dangerous form of skin cancer.
HOW IS KERATOSIS DIAGNOSED?
The Keratosis is easily identified by its appearance. This skin growth can be on any part of the body but is mainly seen on the chest, scalp, shoulders, back or abdomen. A dermatologist may require a skin biopsy of the skin growth to rule out cancer and other dangerous skin ailments.
HOW IS KERATOSIS TREATED?
In many cases keratosis does not need treatment. However, a doctor may decide to remove any growths that have a suspicious appearance or cause physical or emotional discomfort.Treatment options for keratosis include surgery, cryotherapy, dermabrasion, topical medications, chemical peels and photodynamic therapy (PDT).
