Hypomagnesemia is a condition that develops due to a deficiency of magnesium in the blood. While Magnesium is a mineral responsible for bone strength, nerve functions and muscle, Hypomagnesemia does not necessarily have signs or symptoms. However, if Hypomagnesemia becomes severe, a person can develop the following symptoms that include seizure, insomnia, irritability, muscle tightness, tremors, muscle weakness, or irregular heart rate.
HOW IS HYPOMAGNESEMIA DIAGNOSED?
A general physician would be able to diagnose this disorder by a blood test. If there is a drop in the magnesium concentration in the serum of the patient it could be diagnosed as hypomagnesemia.
HOW IS HYPOMAGNESEMIA TREATED?
The most common treatment here would be increasing dosage of magnesium in the diet through supplements and also altering the diet. Alongside any damage caused to internal organs also needs to be repaired. Green vegetables are suggested in the diet alongside high magnesium foods too.
