ratings and reviews)
Hemolytic Anaemia is a blood related disorder and is caused when the red blood cells count goes down due to a negative difference between the rate at which the old cells die and the new cells to replace them are generated through the bone marrow. Medically the condition is described as autoimmune Hemolytic Anaemia. The main causes for this condition to develop include infections or due to side effects of any drugs or tumors. Wrong type blood transfusion can also result in this condition. Symptoms can be different in different people, but some of the common ones include fever, the skin going pale, weakness and fatigue.
HOW IS HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA DIAGNOSED?
A test called a complete blood count (CBC) can help diagnose anaemia and offer some hints to the type and cause of the problem. Other tests include a urine test to look for the presence of red blood cells. In some cases, a doctor may order a bone marrow aspiration or biopsy. This test can provide information about how many red blood cells are being made and their shape.
HOW IS HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA TREATED?
Common treatment methods are blood transfusion, intravenous immune globulin, corticosteroid medication. Surgery may be needed when the spleen has to be removed.
