Harlequin Ichthyosis is a condition that mostly affects infants. Here the infant is born with rather very hard skin unlike the softer skin types of babies. In this disease, there epidermis keeps thickening and getting harder kind of giving a diamond shape appearance. Due to this skin hardening, bleeding during birth is common followed with cracks around the skin, trouble in joint movements, etc.

Diagnosis of the same is done by a general physician who would take some skin tests and genetic tests along with examining the skin.
HOW IS HARLEQUIN ICHTHYOSIS TREATED?
The treatment of Harlequin Ichthyosis is limited and includes putting the baby in a humid environment, providing constant moisture and also keeping the place clean and hygienic to avoid infections. This is not a fatal problem but it reduces the lifespan of the infected child.
