Gallstones are small stones, usually made of cholesterol, that form in the gallbladder. In most cases they don't cause any symptoms and don't need to be treated. Treatment for the gallstones are done via Laparoscopic cholecystectomy where small cuts are made in the belly and is an overnight treatment. Open cholecystectomy is done when the bladder has to be taken out completely. In some cases if the bile ducts then the doctor would conduct ERCP for treatment.
