Also referred to as maxillofacial trauma, facial trauma or facial injuries are any physical injuries to the soft tissues of the face. This could involve burns, fractures, lacerations or bruises to facial bones. Eye injuries, nasal fractures and jaw injuries are the most common types of facial injuries. Most commonly these injuries occur during sports or recreational activities, road accidents, falls or physical fights. There may be sudden and severe pain, bruising and swelling at the site of the injury.
