Eye discharge occurs whenever there is excess fluid in the eye. Eye discharge may be clear and watery, like tears, or in the case of infections, it may be thick and opaque. There are many causes of eye discharge, ranging from infections to allergic reactions to eye injury
HOW IS EYE DISCHARGE DIAGNOSED?
The eye specialist will ask questions about the discharge, its color and consistency, how often it occurs and when, what other symptoms and details of any other medical conditions such as allergies that could be contributing to the problem.
HOW IS EYE DISCHARGE TREATED?
Treatment of eye discharge depends on the cause of discharge. If it is due to an eye infection, then an antibiotic course needs to be given for treating the infection. Application of warm compress over the eyes provides considerable relief and enables draining of the discharge
