A Carbuncle is basically a growth that is filled with pus that is caused due to infection. This abscess is usually found in the skin and also in the follicles of the hair. It can also lead to permanent scars if not treated on time and properly. This is usually a contagious condition.
HOW IS CARBUNCLES DIAGNOSED?
The diagnosis for this condition is usually carried out by a general physician or a general surgeon with the help of a lab study of the pus sample that will be extracted by the doctor. The doctor may also conduct blood and urine tests so that the possibility of diabetes can be ruled out, especially for persistent cases.
HOW IS CARBUNCLES TREATED?
Carbuncles usually must drain before they will heal. This most often occurs on its own in less than 2 weeks. The medical treatment involves procedure like antibiotics, anti-bacterial soaps and pain relievers. Surgeries may be used to address some deep or large carbuncles. A carbuncle may be drained with a scalpel or needle.
