Vision impairment or blindness may be caused by a variety of reasons. Blindness may be partial or total and can have symptoms like blurry vision, an inability to distinguish between different shapes and colours, poor vision at night, and tunnel vision as well. Being partially or completely vision impaired may be due to a head injury, glaucoma, retinal detachment, cataracts or even tumours.
HOW IS BLINDNESS DIAGNOSED?
Detailed examination by an Optometrist helps to determine the cause and type of blindness. A series of tests is recommended to check the function of eye muscles, clarity of vision, and how pupils react to light.
HOW IS BLINDNESS TREATED?
There are many ways to treat blindness. The eye specialist may suggest usage of eyeglasses or contact lenses. A surgery may be advised in cases that require modifications. The doctor may prescribe medication as a part of the treatment. In cases of complete blindness, there is no treatment.
