Anaemia in newborns is when they have fewer red blood cells in their bodies. It could be dangerous as it leads to permanent mental and physical problems. A newborn could be affected with Anaemia due to inheritance or due to lack of supply of iron in their diet. Infants that are fed with cow’s milk or formula are at a greater risk to develop anaemia. The symptoms are when the baby is sleepier than normal, pale skin, fast heartbeat, etc.

Pediatricians diagnose neonatal anaemia through a blood test of the infant.
HOW IS ANEMIA IN NEWBORNS TREATED?
In most of the cases infants have mild anaemia which do not require any treatment. Simple dietary changes can be helpful. In other cases infants are treated with intravenous fluids followed by blood transfusion.
