Age-related Macular Degeneration also known as AMD is an eye disease which causes loss of vision. It is more common with older people and it is related to age. There are few factors that lead to AMD: • Smoking • Genes • Age • Sunlight • Gender • Diet
HOW IS AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION DIAGNOSED?
The diagnosis begins when there is difficulty in reading with glasses, straight lines appear wavy or blurred and when the vision is not as clear as it used to be. There are two types of AMD dry and wet. They are detected with eye examination and by Fluoresce in angiogram.
HOW IS AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION TREATED?
There is no cure for AMD. However, ophthalmological treatments such as laser therapy, use of anti-angiogenic drugs and photodynamic laser therapy can help to prevent complete vision loss and slow the progression of the disease considerably.
