ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION
Acute Myocardial infarction is the medical term for heart attack. When heart attack occurs, the blood supply to the heart is abruptly cut off due to blockages in the coronary artery. The blockage is caused due to buildup of plaque, which is made of cholesterol, fat and other cellular wastes. Common symptoms of acute myocardial infarction are pressure or tightness in the chest, pain in the chest, back, jaw and other areas in the upper torso, shortness of breath and excessive sweat, anxiety and rapid heart rate
HOW IS ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION DIAGNOSED?
The diagnosis of this condition is usually conducted by a Cardiologist who takes an ECG reading to find any anomalies in the tracings. Also, the condition can be diagnosed with the help of a reading of the serum cardiac biomarkers, as well as an autopsy and imaging.
HOW IS ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION TREATED?
Treatments starts with medicine like aspirin which are prevent or dislodge a clot, blood thinners, treat chest pain, stabilize the heart, and stabilize the high blood pressure. A treatment called angioplasty which opens the clogged artery through the insertion of a tube, is done. A bypass surgery is at times needed to route the blood around the blocked artery.
