One of the rare conditions impacting the stomach is Omphalocele where the intestine, liver and other organs tend to remain outside the somatic in a sac because of some defect. Such individuals would have a protruding or bulge type of structure right in the middle of the stomach. It is also seen commonly in most women during pregnancy.
HOW IS OMPHALOCELE DIAGNOSED?
The diagnosis of the condition can happen before birth through a prenatal ultrasound. This diagnosis can happen as early as 12 weeks of pregnancy.
HOW IS OMPHALOCELE TREATED?
The treatment includes hospitalisation of the new born baby. A team of specialists including a surgeon will work on the baby. Speech therapists will also be in the picture to tackle feeding difficulties being faced, while respiratory issues and lactation will also need considerable therapy.
