Eye pain is common symptom of overtired eyes and it could be the symptom of an underlying eye problem like a cyst or even a mild tumour. Most people suffer from eye pain at the end of day if they watch too much TV, computer or had a stressful period. In such times, you would experience pain in the upper eyelid along with retinal region. Eye pain of such kinds usually goes away with sleep.
HOW IS EYE PAIN DIAGNOSED?
Eye care specialists use a variety of tools to diagnose eye pain:
• A slit-lamp exam uses bright light to look into all the structures of the eye.
• Dilating drops expand the pupil to allow the doctor to see deep into the eye.
• A pressure-gauging instrument (tonometer) can detect high pressures caused by glaucoma.
HOW IS EYE PAIN TREATED?
Treatment of eye pain depends on the cause and symptoms. If it is due to an infection, then appropriate medication for treating the infection needs to be given. For other medical conditions like glaucoma surgery may be required.
