It is an infection caused by any of the amoebas of the Entamoeba group. Symptoms are abdominal pain, mild diarrhoea, bloody diarrhea or severe colitis with tissue death and perforation. People affected may develop anemia due to loss of blood.
HOW IS AMOEBIASIS DIAGNOSED?
The physician will perform a physical exam to detect Amoebiasis. He will check for liver enlargement or tenderness in the abdomen. He may also recommend blood tests, sigmoidoscopy, stool test and microscope examination of stool, multiple samples over many days.
HOW IS AMOEBIASIS TREATED?
Anti amoebic drugs known as amebicides are used for treating amoebiasis in the intestine and in the tissues of the intestine or liver.
