Strabismus, also known as crossed eye, is a condition in which the eyes do not line up properly and as a result, the eyes look in different directions, with each eye focusing on a different object. Strabismus occurs when the numerous muscles around the eyes do not work in conjunction because some are weaker than others. Over time, the person may lose vision in the weaker eye if the condition is not corrected. Some of the common signs of Strabismus include impaired vision, and double vision, among others.
HOW IS STRABISMUS DIAGNOSED?
An ophthalmologist would do a series of tests like the cover testing or the Hirschberg test to confirm the disorder.
HOW IS STRABISMUS TREATED?
Treatment procedures are devised based on the extent of the strabismus. In earlier detection, it is possible to operate on the eyes and treat the issue. There are also some laser surgery options available here. Other symptoms like farsightedness or double vision is corrected using glasses.
