Pterygium is a growth that develops on the mucous membrane that covers the white part of the eye. Pterygium is a noncancerous growth that’s often shaped like a wedge. In certain cases, Pterygium can extend to the cornea. Some of the common signs and symptoms of Pterygium include redness, blurred vision, eye irritation and burning sensation or itchiness.
HOW IS PTERYGIUM DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis would be done by an ophthalmologist who would also check for signs of internal damage and observe the eyes.
HOW IS PTERYGIUM TREATED?
Treatment for Pterygium includes use of eye drops that helps to moisturise the eyes. Alongside ointments are given for external application and soothing the skin around the eyes. Certain kinds of steroid eye drops are also provided to sooth the eyes.
