Last Updated: Feb 26, 2021

What are the best home remedies for muscle pain?

Muscle Pain home remedies are very easy and everyone should know them because muscle pain is something that we experience in our day-to-day lives. We tend to get muscle pain maybe after strenuous activity or after getting hurt accidentally. You cannot run to the doctor for pain every time. So you must know some home remedies yourself. One of the simplest and most productive home remedies for muscle pain is an ice pack.

  1. Ice pack:

An ice pack, when placed on the affected area, can reduce the inflammation to a large extent. The cold effect of the ice makes the blood vessels constrict themselves, and thus blood flow is reduced to the affected area. Just put a few ice cubes in a towel and apply them to the affected area for about 30 minutes. Repeat it from time to time throughout the day.

  2. Hot water:

A hot water soak is also helpful for muscle pains. After a day of muscle pain, you can apply a hot water soak which will give you relief from the pain and inflammation. It will resume the blood flow to the affected area. But you must not do this for the first 24 hours. First, you must apply the cold pack, and then on the next day apply the hot water soak.

  3. Epsom salt:

Mix some Epsom salt in a tub of hot water and immerse the affected region in it. Turmeric is also a well-known painkiller. It is also a very active and natural anti-inflammatory agent. Just mix one teaspoon of it in milk and then heat the mixture. Consume it and you will get relief from the pain. You can also soak your affected portion in a tub of hot water with apple cider vinegar mixed in it.

  4. Ginger:

Ginger possesses anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce muscle pain. You can take ginger in the form of tea to get relief from muscle pain.

  5. Turmeric:

Turmeric contains a compound that has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is one of the most effective home remedies for muscle pain. You can take turmeric by mixing half a tablespoon of turmeric powder in warm milk.

  6. Garlic:

Garlic contains compounds such as sulphur and selenium that help to reduce muscle pain. Sulphur has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to reduce inflammation which results in relief from pain.

  7. Apple cider vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar is one of the effective remedies for sore throat. You can either drink apple cider vinegar by mixing with honey and water or you can directly rub in the areas with pain.

  8. Take proper rest:

Taking proper rest and sleeping for sufficient time enhances the healing process in the body. It helps to provide relief from pain. Make a habit of going to bed on time.

Summary: Muscle pain can be reduced by applying an ice pack, hot water, and Epsom salt. You can also take turmeric, apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger tea to treat muscle pain. Give proper rest to your body.

Are there any side effects of remedies for muscle pain?

Side-effects from home remedies occur when people take measures before understanding their line of action or impact.

  • The most common side-effects occur when people confuse the fact when to use a cold pack and when to apply a hot water soak. So let me clear the confusion.
  • Heat should never be used on injuries on the same day it occurred. The heat will make bleeding under your skin in that affected area and worsen the case. The only exception is the back pain caused by muscle spasms. And in that case, you can apply heat to your affected area. When an injury occurs there is bleeding under the skin and inflammation occurs.
  • An ice pack is helpful in that case. So if someone reverses these conditions, he or she is bound to have side-effects.
  • Consuming turmeric with milk is good but an overdose can lead to lowering of your blood pressure. So be careful about how much of it you are consuming. Also, be careful about turmeric if you are allergic to it. Not only turmeric but it applies to any other product. Don’t take anything to which you are allergic. It will only make situations adverse. Pregnant women should avoid this turmeric remedy at all costs. Turmeric is not at all good for them.
  • Apple cider vinegar mixed in hot water is good for a soak unless you are allergic to it. Do not make the bath too concentrated because apple cider vinegar is concentrated in nature.
Summary: Despite being effective, certain home remedies have some side effects which vary from person to person, so choose your home remedy only if you are not allergic or sensitive to the particular substance. Do not use any home remedies in excess as it may be harmful to health.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

The best post-remedy guidelines for muscle pain is to not get hurt again. Muscle pain doesn’t necessarily occur from an injury all the time. It may well occur from your day-to-day activities too. But if you have a good fitness level you won’t be having many muscle pains.

  • So do regular exercise and keep yourself fit.
  • One more thing is that, unless and until your pain has not completely healed don’t do anything that will aggravate it.
  • Don’t extend yourself to do anything when your body does not permit it because that is when you can get muscle pain.
  • Don’t do too much strenuous work at a stretch. Most importantly, be careful with whatever you do.
  • Do some kind of mobility exercises regularly and they will keep your muscles in good health.
Summary: Follow the guidelines. Get Adopted to a healthy lifestyle. Don’t do too much strenuous work. Take proper rest to your body.

How long does it take to recover or to get rid of muscle pain?

Recovery mostly depends on the intensity of your pain. If you have got hurt badly then it may take some time to heal. If it is only a little cramp then it shouldn’t take more than a day or two. Recovery also depends on how much your body can combat against it and mend the tissues.

If it is stubborn back pain, then a heat pack should help but back pains generally keep coming back. But whatever the pain is, don’t do any strenuous work until you have fully recovered otherwise the pain would increase.

Summary: The time of recovery depends upon the intensity of pain and how much your body can combat it.
