The term Meniere's Disease is used for defining the problem in the inner ear that eventually leads to episodes similar to that of vertigo. Here the patient would experience symptoms of spinning, dizziness, fainting, ringing in the ear, loss of hearing and also the feeling of fullness in the ear. There is also a risk of complete or permanent hearing loss here.
HOW IS MENIERE'S DISEASE DIAGNOSED?
An ENT expert would observe these symptoms and physically examine your inner ear. Along with hearing tests, they would also conduct Videonystagmography, Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials, rotary chair testing and other similar tests here.
HOW IS MENIERE'S DISEASE TREATED?
Possible treatments include:
• medicines to treat the symptoms and prevent attacks
• changes in eating habits, such as a low-salt diet
• balance training (vestibular rehabilitation)
• relaxation techniques
• surgery, in more severe cases
• Cognitive therapy.
