First control diabetes. HbA1c should be maximum 6.5 before conceiving. It's better if you can consult gynaecologist for pre-conceptional care, right now.

Hello- It has nothing to do with your tubal ligation. You might be suffering from internal piles. Avoid spicy diet. Skip fasting. Make your bowel clear with the use of ayurvedic laxatives. Don't strain during defecation. Start Abhyaristha 2 tsp twice daily with equal water after meals.

Hello Dear,Periods occur when the egg formed during each menstrual cycle in the female body is not fertilized and hence ejected out of the reproductive system along with blood and several other tissue cells. For many women, their monthly period is nothing more than an annoyance; but other women may suffer some problems. Visit us at www.Malhotraayurveda.Com

In some women, the periods cease suddenly. After a year of no menstruation, a woman is said to have gone through menopause. Menopause usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 52, although in some it may start as early as the late thirties and early forties. Can Beer Be a Healthy Drink?

PG Diploma in Clinical Research, Diploma in Acupuncture, MBBS, College Of Physicians & Surgeons
General Physician, Mumbai
Can Beer Be a Healthy Drink?

Can beer be a healthy drink? Despite the common myths surrounding alcohol consumption and the adverse effects that it has on a person in the long run, a controlled and well-balanced intake of beer is not as bad as it would seem.

Here are a few reasons proving that beer can be healthy for you if taken in the right amount and quantity:

  1. In comparison to other alcoholic beverages, beer is relatively healthier for your kidneys. As a matter of fact, studies show that a bottle of beer can actually reduce the risk of acquiring kidney stones by up to 40%.
  2. Fiber, as we all know, plays a vital role in digestion. The presence of up to one gram of soluble fiber in just a 30ml glass of beer (dark beer, in particular) makes the beverage very beneficial for digestion.
  3. Fiber present in beer can also help reduce the level of LDL cholesterol (a harmful proponent of cholesterol).
  4. It has been proved that beer is a rich source of various B vitamins like vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12.
  5. The presence of both nicotinic acid and Lactoflavin in beer makes it an effective cure for insomnia.
  6. Beer is also helpful in the prevention of blood clots.
  7. The presence of high levels of silicon in beer is responsible for bestowing a stronger bone density.
  8. Studies have concluded that beer can also reduce the risk of suffering a heart attack.
  9. Unlike their non-drinking counterparts, beer drinkers are less vulnerable of experiencing dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
  10. Because of the presence of certain vitamins, beer has a ton of healthy nourishing benefits for the skin.
  11. Beer is also useful in fighting against stress.

What are the recommended safe limits of Beer?

  • Men should drink no more than 14 units of Beer per week, these units should be spread out through the week and they should have at least two alcohol free days a week.
  • Women should drink no more than 14 units of Beer per week, these units should be spread out through the week and they should have at least two alcohol free days a week.
  • Pregnant women or women trying to conceive should not drink alcohol at all. If they do choose to drink, to minimise the risk to the baby, they should not drink more than 1-2 units of beer once or twice a week and should not get drunk.

Despite the above people with increased Triglyceride, Uric Acid should be restricted for consumption of alcohol. People with fatty liver patient with other medication for hypertension, etc. also should refrain from drinking.

People with diabetes who drink should follow these alcohol consumption guidelines:

  1. Do not drink more than two drinks of alcohol in a one day period if you are a man, or one drink if you are a woman.
  2. Drink beer only with food.
  3. Drink slowly.
  4. Avoid "sugary" mixed drinks, sweet wines or cordials.

Hello doctor, my wife is getting white discharge during mensuration. She is telling that it is thick white in colour. Can you explain the causes and diagnosis.

Dear user. I can understand. LEUCORRHOEA translates in modern medicine as a whitish or yellowish discharge of mucus from the vagina. Some of the most common causes of white vaginal discharge include: 1)Infections from bacteria, fungi or other parasites. 2). Injuries or trauma to the vagina, the womb or the cervix, which is very common during pregnancy. 3). Lack of cleanliness or poor hygienic measures. Discharge related with leucorrhoea (or other STDs like yeast infection, chlamydia and trichomoniasis) are generally foamy, greenish-white, foul-smelling and infectious. A proper diagnosis using vaginal swab is very important to diagnose the exact infection, before treatment can ensue. Please consult a gynecologist for clarification and then treatment. Take care.

Ovulaion date k next day sex krne se pregnency aane ki Chance rehta hain? Patla semen se pregnency aaskti Hain?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology

Dear user. FERTILE PHASE is the phase of a female's menstrual cycle when an egg (ovule) is released from the ovaries. In humans, ovulation occurs about midway through the menstrual cycle, after the follicular phase. The few days surrounding ovulation (from approximately days 10 to 18 of a 28 day cycle), constitute the most fertile phase. So if you have ejaculatory sexual inter course from day 10 from the first day of period and to day 20, the chances of pregnancy are much more. There are many determinants of pregnancy. You should be sexually matured. Your partner should be sexually matured. The period of your partner should be in the fertile stage. Her egg and your sperm cells should healthy enough. Then her uterus should be capable to get conceived. If all these were satisfied, the pregnancy could be a result. Take care.

I have PCOD, diagnosed in July 2015, married in Dec 2013, TTC since Feb 2015, took myoinisitol, duphaston n all9, regular periods since Aug 2015, average 29 days. This month it's already 8 days past taking last dosage of duphaston, but no periods, PT -ve. What can b odr reason for d delay?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
As you r already suffering from pcod, menses can get delayed even with slight change in hormones. You have not mentioned your last menses date. If it is crossed the date by 7 days then urine test to be done and if negative keep repeating every week till you get menses. Myo-inisitol and duphaston have already proven by research to be not effective for treatment of pcod.

Zinc - 7 Reasons Why It Is Important For You!

Zinc - 7 Reasons Why It Is Important For You!

Zinc is chemically a metal and a trace mineral with multiple health benefits. It is required by the body for a number of functions in small quantities on a regular basis. Some of its important roles include improving immunity, hormone production and promoting digestion, controlling inflammation, tissue growth and repair, etc. to name a few. It also helps in controlling free radical production and therefore has anti-inflammatory effects in reversing heart disease and fighting cancer.

About 5 to 8 mg of zinc is needed by a person per day, with smaller children needing it in the lesser range and women needing more of it. Natural sources of zinc include animal rich protein foods like animal meat and seafood. Dairy products, legumes, pulses and whole grains also contain good amounts of zinc. Modern day foods contain added zinc and therefore are good sources too, though they availability and utility value for the body remain a question.

  1. Zinc improves immunity i.e. the body produces what are called as T cells when there is any infection or foreign body in the body. These T cells also help in controlling and regulating immune responses and in people with zinc deficiency, the immune system is suppressed putting them at risk for infections and illnesses.
  2. Zinc has a great role to play in maintaining skin integrity and delayed wound healing is one of the first symptoms of zinc deficiency. These people also could develop chronic ulcers or wounds. There is increased bacterial growth (reduced immunity), increased inflammation, and reduced re-epithelialization, all leading to poor skin health and delaying wound healing.
  3. Zinc is essential for healthy gut function and it is one of the best remedies for diarrhoea. Deficiency can lead to leaky gut syndrome.
  4. Zinc reduces free radical damage, which is responsible for chronic inflammation. Eating adequate amounts of zinc can reduce this inflammation, leading to preventing heart disease, reducing the incidence of cancer, etc. It also is shown to prevent cellular damage in the retina, thereby reducing incidence of macular degeneration.
  5. Zinc is essential for proper growth and development. Zinc deficiency is shown to produce shorter stature, anaemia, and delayed sexual maturation. During the growing years especially, it is very important to provide an adequate amount of zinc for the body, either naturally or through supplements.
  6. Fertility and zinc also has a strong correlation. In males, it affects both the quantity and quality of sperm production. The sperm count was shown to improve with zinc supplementation in males who complained of low sperm count.
  7. Controlling memory is another function of zinc. It determines how neurones talk to each other, which is essential for transmission of signals across the brain and formation of memory. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

As you may know, you are perimenopausal. This refers to the time before menopause when hormone levels, particularly estrogen, begin fluctuating. Perimenopause occurs, on average, about four years before actual menopause. Menopause is timed as the date of the final period, confirmed after periods have been missed for 12 months.

All About Diabetic Nephropathy

MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DM - Nephrology, DNB (Nephrology)
Nephrologist, Delhi
All About Diabetic Nephropathy

Nephropathy is also known as renal disease. It is any type of damage or disease relating to the kidneys. Though not everyone with diabetes has nephropathy, however, diabetic nephropathy can cause kidney failure.

How does diabetes affect the kidney?
Kidneys are responsible for taking waste out from your blood. They have a lot of tiny blood vessels to do this. High blood sugar may kill such blood vessels. Once these blood vessels are destroyed, the kidneys may not function as well or it may even lead to kidney failure.

What increases your risk of getting diabetic nephropathy?
There are several factors which increase your risk of getting diabetic nephropathy including: \

  1. High blood pressure
  2. High cholesterol
  3. Smoking
  4. Being Native American, African American or of Hispanic origin, for whom risk factors have proved to be magnified
  5. If you have family history of diabetic nephropathy

Symptoms and diagnosis:
There are very few noticeable symptoms, which appear when you have diabetic nephropathy, except swelling in your arms and legs. The diagnosis is done by checking for a type of protein in your urine known as albumin, which is not supposed to be there. Getting the diagnosis done early is crucial.

Preventive measures:
You can prevent kidney damage by doing the following:

  1. Keeping your blood sugar levels under control - keep HbA1C < 6-7%
  2. Keeping your blood pressure under control in the range of 130/80
  3. Eating healthy food
  4. Exercising regularly
  5. Not eating too much protein
  6. Not eating too much salt
  7. Reducing smoke or excessive tobacco usage

Medicines for treatment:
If you do get diabetic nephropathy, here are some medicines, which can help cure it

  1. ACE inhibitors which are also called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors
  2. Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs)

Possible complications:

  1. Blood pressure may rise
  2. Triglyceride levels and cholesterol levels may rise.

Age of Hormones in Women and Weight loss
In a study in obesity reviews unsw's st. George clinical school points out the paradox of weight management in women. From an energy balance point of view there is no explanation why women should be better than men particularly since men consume more calories proportionately. In fact women burn off more fat than men during exercise. Suggesting women are more efficient fat storers at other times
Oestrogen reduces a women's ability to burn energy after eating resulting in more fat being stored around the body

Hi Dr, I am Brinda, 30yrs, F. Married since 7years. PCOD (on glycomet 850 and Normoz. Gone through 6 Follicular study no results. I conceived on own before 4years but it was miscarriage on 6th week (Only sac was seen could not see baby till 6th week scan). Now my Dr. Suggested for Advanced Diagnostic Hystereolaproscopy to find any blocks in my tubes and other fertile aspects. I would like to know if I surely have to undergo this laparoscopy or as an alternate could I go for IUI or IVF to conceive skipping this laparoscopy. Please advise. Thanks.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Its been 4 years since your last pregnancy which unfortunately had ended in a miscarriage. The medicines given to you must have resulted in ovulation, and the doctors must have adviced you to have sexual relations in the ovulatory period. But if this has not resulted in a pregnancy over 6 cycles, it means there is a need to evaluate your fallopian tube patency. Patency of the fallopian tubes is done by many methods: 1. Hsg - hysterosalpingography, which is an x ray taken when a dye is injected in your uterus 2. Sonosalpingography, where saline introduced in uterine cavity is seen on sonography to assess fallopian tubal patency 3. Hysterolaparoscopy. Here hysteroscopy will evaluate uterus and its lining, and laparoscopy will be used to assess the peritoneum, ovaries, fallopian tubal patency etc tubal patency will need to be established before taking up iui. So it is prudent to go for any of the tests mentioned above for tubal patency. If you want to go for ivf, tubal status need not be checked because in ivf we bypass the function of the tube i. E intratubal fertilisation (as this is made to happen -" invitro")

Hi Rajeshwari , in case of unicornuate uterus their is tendency of early delivery. Please take rest. As size of the uterus is relatively small you may feel less fetal movement's. In some cases due to decreased amniotic fluid levels decrease in fetal movements seen.

You can have discharge after taking pills and also if your periods are overdue. To be on the safe side if your periods fail to come by next week please do a urine pregnancy test.
