A Hole in the Heart is a disease wherein many babies are born with a hole in the heart and when these children grow, they may be small for their age. While heredity may play a role in causing this disease, it doesn't necessarily have any symptoms. However, often, a heart murmur i.e. an unusual sound heard during a heartbeat is the most common symptom of Hole in the Heart.
HOW IS HOLE IN THE HEART DIAGNOSED?
While in most of the cases, there is no need to pursue the diagnosis of Hole in the Heart but if the Cardiologist feels the need, he/she can conduct an Echocardiogram to get an image of the heart and determine the severity of the disease.
HOW IS HOLE IN THE HEART TREATED?
In most of the cases, doctors perform a surgery to cure the disease and medication to thin the blood and prevent clots may also be prescribed instead of surgery.
