Crossbite can occur when the upper and lower jaws are not aligned. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. This can cause wear and tear of the teeth, gum disease, and bone loss.
HOW IS CROSSBITE DIAGNOSED?
There can be a variety of reasons that causes this condition. It can be hereditary too. Mismatched jaw sizes can also cause crossbite.
HOW IS CROSSBITE TREATED?
The treatment includes using braces to correct the single or many teeth that are causing the negative overjet. This is a permanent solution that will require the patient to wear metal braces with periodical tightening over a period of a few years, depending on the severity of the condition.
