Aromatherapy employs natural aromatic oils extracted from plants to treat diseases. Essential oils are taken from a plant's flowers, leaves, stalks, bark, rind, or roots. The oils are mixed with other herbal ingredients before being applied to the skin, sprayed in the air, or inhaled. They are also utilized for massages and aromatic baths or saunas. Aromatherapy induces relaxation of the body and mind. It is also beneficial in relieving stress. Aromatherapy has found wide application in the treatment of a wide range of physical and mental conditions, including skin infections, headaches, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Practitioners of aromatherapy believe that fragrances in the oils can stimulate nerves in the nose to transmit impulses to the brain. The oils interact with the enzymes to bring about changes in blood pressure, pulse, and other body functions. The fragrance of certain oils may stimulate the body to produce pain inhibitors. Aromatherapy is generally administered by Aerial diffusion. The oils are vaporized and diffused into the air. The patient inhales the vapors while breathing. Direct inhalation technique, on the other hand, is used for respiratory disinfection, decongestion, as well as for psychological benefits. It involves taking in the vapors directly through the air. Topical applications of aromatic oils are recommended for massage, baths, and therapeutic skin care. Aromatherapy adopts a holistic approach to treatment. Depending on the nature of the relief sought, the aromatherapist may recommend a single oil or a blended solution. Carrier oil is sometimes required during the massage to provide lubrication. The initial session usually lasts for about two hours. Subsequently, the sessions may conclude within one-and-a-half hours.
