Exercises for cervicogenic headache hi dear, I hope you will fitt and fine The following exercises are commonly prescribed to patients with this condition. You should discuss the suitability of these exercises with your physiotherapist prior to beginning them. Generally, they should be performed 2 – 5 times daily and only provided they do not cause or increase symptoms. Your physiotherapist can advise when it is appropriate to begin the initial exercises and eventually progress to the intermediate and advanced exercises. As a general rule, addition of exercises or progression to more advanced exercises should take place provided there is no increase in symptoms. ________________________________________ Initial Exercises Chin Tucks Begin this exercise by sitting or standing tall with your back and neck straight, shoulders should be back slightly. Tuck your chin in as far as you can go without pain and provided you feel no more than a mild to moderate stretch (figure 4). Keep your eyes and nose facing forwards during the movement. Hold for 2 seconds and repeat 10 times provided there is no increase in symptoms. Repeat 3 – 5 times daily. (N. B In some cases it may be beneficial to perform this exercise every 1 or 2 hours provided the exercise does not cause or increase symptoms). Shoulder Blade Squeezes Begin this exercise by sitting or standing tall with your back straight. Squeeze your shoulder blades together as hard and far as possible pain-free (figure 5). Hold for 5 seconds and repeat 10 times provided there is no increase in symptoms. Repeat 3 – 5 times daily. (N. B In some cases it may be beneficial to perform this exercise every 1 or 2 hours provided the exercise does not cause or increase symptoms) Some of the most commonly recommended products by physiotherapists to hasten healing and speed recovery in patients with this condition include: 1.Postural Supports To enjoy a long and healthy life 2.Therapeutic Pillows 3.Ice Packs and Heat Packs 4.Lumbar Rolls (for sitting) 5.Sports Tape (for postural taping) 6.McKenzie Treat Your Own Neck Book 7.Foam Rollers 8.Massage Balls (for self massage) 9.TENS Machines (for pain relief)

I have nystagmus problem since childhood because of this my vision is going lowing. Is there any option on nystagmus problem? Please help.

I have nystagmus problem since childhood because of this my vision is going lowing. Is there any option on nystagmus ...
Hello lybrate-user. Nystagmus is a condition associated with oscillatory movements of the eyeball which may occur at varying intervals. It may be associated with certain retinal defects as well as systemic problems. If it has been present since childhood, it is likely to be completely curable. Though there are a few non-surgical as well as surgical options for nystagmus, they are usually associated with incomplete results. It would be better to have a look at your past reports as well as the present eye condition and then arrive upon a definite conclusion. Let me know if it is possible to communicate over the video/ audio facility provided by lybrate. In that way, I would be able to guide you in a better manner. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care-regards-dr.

Sir I have allergies in my eyes are affected the most they re puffy red and itchy what can I do.
Hello. I think you have allergic conjunctivitis. 1. Eye allergies, called allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them (called an allergen). 2.The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids) become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. The key to treating eye allergies is a. Avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. b. Avoid rubbing eyes instead do cold compresses. Use antiallergic eyedrop along with lubricating eyedrop. This will help you I am very sorry dear to say that there is no medicine that can cure allergy. Only way is to stay away from all those things that you are allergic to.

Retinal Detachment - 4 Ways It Can Be Treated!

Retinal Detachment - 4 Ways It Can Be Treated!

While we usually consider the eye to be a single element, it does, in fact, have a number of smaller parts each which play a distinct role in helping us see. The retina covers more than half the interior surface of the eye and can be described as the light sensitive layer that converts light into optic signals that are then carried to the brain. Retinal detachment is a serious condition that causes the retina to be separated from the supportive tissue. If not treated immediately, it could lead to permanent blindness.

Retinal detachment can be passed down from one generation of a family to another and hence if someone in your family has suffered from this condition, you have a high risk of suffering from it as well. People who are severely near sighted or those who have suffered from an eye injury are also at a high risk of suffering from retinal detachment.

Retinal detachment is not a painful condition and may have no warning signs. Some of the symptoms of this condition include seeing flashes of light, floaters and darkening of the peripheral vision. An early diagnosis can help prevent blindness caused by retinal detachment. To diagnose this condition, the doctor will dilate the patient’s eyes and use a special tool to get a closer look at the retina.

The method best suited to treating retinal detachment depends on the condition of the retina and advancement of the detachment.

  1. Laser or cryotherapy: This may be used in the early stages of retinal detachment as an outpatient procedure. Laser therapy may also be used to treat retinal tears.
  2. Pneumatic retinopexy: This form of treatment can be used in cases where the retinal tear is small and can be closed easily. It involves injecting a small gas bubble into the eye. This gas then rises and presses itself against the retina thus closing the tear. Pneumatic retinopexy may be followed by laser therapy to seal the tear in place.
  3. Scleral buckle: This is a surgical procedure where the doctor will sew a sclera or silicon band around the white of the eye. This is invisible and gradually will push against the torn edges closer together till they heal. This may also be followed by laser therapy.
  4. Vitrectomy: Large tears may be treated with a surgical procedure known as a vitrectomy. This involves the removal of vitreous matter from the eye and its replacement with saline solution. This procedure may often be used in combination with any of the above forms of treatment.

Red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power.

Stye is infection of Moll & zeis gland present in every body eye lids. Stye occurs due to refractive error as book says but practically it doesn't happen & I have seen happening in persons who have no refractive error, there is no cure for recurrent& multiple states, we only prescribe antibiotic orally as well as for local application in form of ointment. Hot fomentation does only help to certain extent. There is good medicine in homoeopath for recurrent & multiple stye as I had read during my post graduation in a book written by renowned professor of ophalmology of Mumbai, the drugs named were pulstilla & silicea.
