I have a pcos problem from 5 years. Is that any problem in future and give me a solution for this.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
there are many reason for pcos. Excess insulin. Insulin is the hormone produced in the pancreas that allows cells to use sugar (glucose) — your body's primary energy supply. If you have insulin resistance, your ability to use insulin effectively is impaired, and your pancreas has to secrete more insulin to make glucose available to cells. Excess insulin might also affect the ovaries by increasing androgen production, which may interfere with the ovaries' ability to ovulate. Low-grade inflammation. Your body's white blood cells produce substances to fight infection in a response called inflammation. Research has shown that women with PCOS have low-grade inflammation and that this type of low-grade inflammation stimulates polycystic ovaries to produce androgens. Heredity. If your mother or sister has PCOS, you might have a greater chance of having it, too. Researchers also are looking into the possibility that certain genes are linked to PCOS. Regulate your menstrual cycle. To regulate your menstrual cycle, your doctor may recommend combination birth control pills — pills that contain both estrogen and progestin. These birth control pills decrease androgen production and give your body a break from the effects of continuous estrogen, lowering your risk of endometrial cancer and correcting abnormal bleeding. As an alternative to birth control pills, you might use a skin patch or vaginal ring that contains a combination of estrogen and progestin. During the time that you take this medication to relieve your symptoms, you won't be able to conceive. If you're not a good candidate for combination birth control pills, an alternative approach is to take progesterone for 10 to 14 days every one to two months. This type of progesterone therapy regulates your periods and offers protection against endometrial cancer, but it doesn't improve androgen levels and it won't prevent pregnancy. The progestin-only minipill or progestin-containing intrauterine device are better choices if you also wish to avoid pregnancy. Your doctor also may prescribe metformin (Glucophage, Fortamet, others), an oral medication for type 2 diabetes that improves insulin resistance and lowers insulin levels. This drug may help with ovulation and lead to regular menstrual cycles. Metformin also slows the progression to type 2 diabetes if you already have prediabetes and aids in weight loss if you also follow a diet and an exercise program.

Hi lybrate-user, High Prolactin levels can have various reasons which need to be ruled out by your doctor. Of course it is possible to bring back the levels of Prolactin back to normal range. And once thats corrected you can definitely conceive. So please don't loose your heart over that. All the best.

Only if it is a delayed pregnancy there is a chance you can still be pregnant, however you may get a betahcg blood test done to clear doubts on pregnancy. Don't be disheartened if this is Negative there is still always another chance.

Hi, my wife drank harpic (toilet cleaner) she was admitted in hospital but her father did not revealed that she drank harpic instead he said she is having chest pain. She actually was having chest pain when admitted to hospital but my father in law due to my fear did not told about harpic. She also had anxiety and panic attack problem from past 2 years after doctor examined and started treatment few hour later they said she is recovering and will be shifted to general ward but same day after few hour again some problem started and then put on ventilation was given anesthesia to rest and next day she died. I know its my father in law mistake he never told the doctor about harpic and what made her drink that shit. In death certificate doctor wrote it was by suffocation. I just need to know if my father in law would have told the doctor could she be saved. Please doctor I need to know.

Sorry to hear about it accidental or suicidal ingestion of acid usually affects the lower oesophagus and stomach. Harpic is a commonly used toilet cleaning solution and contains hydrochloric acid as the active ingredient, whose ingestion can affect both the stomach and intestines in the form of gangrene and perforation. Symptomatic treatment aims at dilution of the ingested corrosive and specific management involves correcting metabolic imbalances, coagulopathy and emergency surgical intervention for severe injury and late sequelae. Whether she could be saved or not depends totally on the blood reports of the patient, site of perforation whether it is food pipe or stomach or duodenum hydrochloric acid posioning can be treated success fully, but before I can comment whether in your case she could be or could not be depends totaaly on her condition at time of admission kindly send to me a copy of all the reports and presciption and all the treatment charts of your wife provided to you by hospital as it is acse of poisioning without looking at all these documents its not possible to give a expert comment thank you mail me all documents from admission to discharge.

For 7 months trying to conceive. Using ovulation predictor kit also. My cycle is in between 31 to 34 days. Should we visit to a doctor or should give us more time?

You should see a gynaecologist if you are unable to conceive after 1 year of trying. Since your cycles are 31-34 days long, ovulation occurs around day 17- 20. You should have intercourse on days 16,18 and 20 to increase your chances of conception.

You are getting over bleeding during periods. I advise you to start using contraceptive pills for three months, this will control your bleeding.
