I am 19 years old male and have TB for last 3 weeks .I have used anti tb schedule 1 which contains 7 tablets .I take tablets in time interval 15 minutes. Should I take time interval or take all the tablets at a time ?what should I do? Please give me your suggestion madam.

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, MBBS
Pulmonologist, Gurgaon
Tb medications need to be taken empty stomach and keeping a gap of 5 mins in between medicines is enough. 15 min not required. Even if you take all simultaneously and tolerate it then also it is absolutely fine.

My grandmother is suffering from bone TB in spine l1&l2 from 6 months but from last 2 months she is not able to walk and sit properly for few seconds also, according to the recent X-RAY of spine conducted shows that her L5 of is collapsed and bone formation has started at l1& l2, what should be the remedy I.e. Medicine or operation.

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, MBBS
Pulmonologist, Gurgaon
Bone tb usually takes long time to resolve. But since she is suffering from activity limitation. She needs to have a team approach by a pulmonologist and ortho spine specialist. You can see me for the needful, she needs proper medical and if required spinal fixation.

Hello doc. I recently completed my 18 month chest and abdominal tuberculosis treatment. Can I take beer now?

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, MBBS
Pulmonologist, Gurgaon
Occasional beer intake should not be a concern. But I would personally recommend you not to take any alcoholic beverages as one year post abdominal tb you just need to concentrate on building your nutrition by adequate protein intake.

My father in law is 84 years old and suffering from Lungs adenocarcinoma with MPE. He is on Palliative care. Doc has advised for pleurodesis. From the time (Jan'17) he is on palliative, he is leading a quality life (No Breathlessness, No coughing, good Appetite, moderately life). However X Ray shows massive effusion. Shall appreciate ans to my queries. 1. Should we go ahead with pleurodesis? 2. How long does it take and any side complications?

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, MBBS
Pulmonologist, Gurgaon
Pleurodesis is just a procedure to stick two pleural surface with each other so that there is no fresh formation of pleural fluid. If he has massive effusion making him breathless there are two options: 1: put chest tube and do pleurodesis, this will make him relieve his symptoms of breathlessness. It takes two to three for entire process in hospital. 2: go for in dewelling pleural catheter (IPC) Not much complications for pleurodesis.

My relative was highly indulged in chewing tobacco and liquor consumption. Now he is diagnosed with lungs cancer fourth stage. Post biopsy his condition is getting even critical. He is not able to breathe without oxygen mask. Doctors say this is because of biopsy post effects. Please advice how long can he survive. Doctors say he is not strong enough to bear chemotherapy. Is he very critical.

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, MBBS
Pulmonologist, Gurgaon
Usually lung cancer fourth stage is very critical and such patients have a very poor survival rate. But still you need to tell me about the type of lung cancer, prognosis depends on that. We might suggest him a low dose chemo. But in all conditions his outcome won't be very great.

It all depends where you are getting it done and what technique you opt for. Laser tonsillectomy my go up to 60 to 70 thousand and simple surgical tonsillectomy ranges from 20 to 40 thousand in a good hospital.
