Why avoid green leafy vegetables in rainy season?
Green leafy vegetables are favorite of all dietitian nutritionist doctors and health-conscious people.One should include them generously in their diet in all seasons except in rainy season.Monsoon is the only season when these antioxidant-rich, power pack vegetables need to be avoided because monsoons not only brings pleasant weather but the risk of poor immunity, weak or slow digestion, allergies, food and water-borne diseases as well.
The damp and filthy conditions in monsoon play host to various disease-causing germs that can be harmful to your health. In high humidity during this time microbes tend to multiply at the highest speed and they can easily contaminate greens leafy vegetables. If you are consuming foods like spinach, Meethi, kale, lettuce or any other leafy vegetable or cabbage that go straight, unpeeled, uncooked from farm to plate in form of salads, green juices, smoothies etc. you must stop doing so.Because the grime and dampness present in leafy vegetables can make them highly susceptible to germs and can cause diseases like stomach infections, cold, flu cholera or diarrhea. Although these vegetables can be consumed in cooked form after washing them thoroughly but must be avoided in raw form.
Few options of vegetables you can consume during this season are bottle gourd (Loki, dudhi),pointed gourd (parval), yam (suran), snake gourd( tori), apple gourd (tinda) along with our all favorite potatoes, onion cucumber turnip etc. all these vegetables should be cooked after proper washing and peeling.
