I feel she has allergic cough. You try levocet-m syrup 5 ml once daily and inform me. No need of lung scan. Send me all reports you have done so far.

Get breast examination done to see any problems with nipple. U need to see a pediatrician to check if the suck of baby is good. Or is there any other problem. Be confident and stick to breast feeding. If the baby is not gaining weight then alternative s like formula milk needs to be started.

Usually all babies will not gain weight as mothers hope for and generally they grow only 0.5-1 Kg every year after the first birth day. But the rate of growth can be affected by birth history and other matters. But you must check if he has hypothyroidism / or anemia which is a common disease that gives all the symptoms. If these tests are normal, you must stop bottle feed if you give and feed only with spoon and all homemade foods should be given. He should not be given any fluids in bottle with nipple where as you can give in a sippert if the cup and spoon is not acceptable.

Managing Asthma at Home!

General Physician, Bangalore
Managing Asthma at Home!

1. It is important to gargle with warm water immediately after nebulization. This measure is intended to wash out the deposits of drugs that if allowed to stay within the oral cavity, will lead to hoarseness of voice and oral ulcers.

2. Following the gargle, drink 2 cups of warm water. This measure will wash out the drugs that is deposited during nebulization on the walls of the esophagus. Thus avoid esophageal irritation caused due to the drug deposited on the inner walls of the esophagus.

3. It will definately help to have a air purifier at home to monitor the particulate matter content in the ambience. This will also reduce the frequency of attacks and enable relatively clean air for the affected, creating comfortable indoors.

4. Take time out to teach children on how to apply the inhaler effectively so as to be able to self-help during acute asthmatic attacks. If available, adrenaline shots of 0.5 to 1 mg may be carried on them, so that in event of severe asthmatic attack, a subcutaneous shot of adrenaline is life saving.

5. Be aware of early signs of an attack, point out these early signs to asthmatic children so that they may stop their activity and take self-help measures.

6. Do not wait for ambulances to arrive in case anybody is in acute asthmatic attack, sit the person in upright position, give them multiple shots through pocket inhaler or start nebulisation with duolin +/- budecort, if the affected person is carrying a adrenaline shot - 1mg subcutaneous should be given on the deltoid of either upper limb of the person.

Sir, my daughter aged 5, taking Dr. Mercola multivitamin for children, which contains 2000 iu of vitamin d3, is it safe for my daughter, as she is india, Dr. Mercola says it is safe, please guide me. Thanks.

MRCPCH, MBBS
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Hello, it is good to give vitamin d3 but this dose is on higher side. We need 400 iu per day so allow a vit d3 half sachet once a month only and other multivitamins are fine if you want though I would not recommend that if appetite covers all natural sources of vitamins. However, if you want you continue you can but please take care of d3 vitamin dosage. Take care.

Is it fine to introduce liquid diet to 3 months baby as breastfeeding is insufficient for my baby's need?

Is it fine to introduce liquid diet to 3 months baby as breastfeeding is insufficient for my baby's need?
Hi, exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for 6 months, it increases immunity of child and provides all nutrients. If not able to give breastfeed then formula ffed like nan 1, lactogen 1 can be given. But you should try to feed child as much as possible because this will increase your milk production. Wishing your baby a good health.

Good afternoon Regular use of antibiotic is surely not a good option but when it's required it has to be given Diet plays the major role in building immunity. So improve the diet of baby and add supplements if need be. Give clean water and healthy diet and keep the baby immunised as per age. Take care.
