Masturbation is almost certainly good for your sex life. Masturbating doesn't reflect on your relationship. Masturbation doesn't have the health benefits that sex does. Masturbation is not risk, free. There's no" normal" amount of masturbation. Guys can get hung up on whether they masturbate too much. But it's not how many times you masturbate in a week (or day) that really matters, says logan levkoff, phd, a sexologist and sex educator. It's how it fits into your life. If you masturbate many times a day and have a healthy, satisfying life, good for you. But if you masturbate many times a day and you're missing work or giving up on sex with your partner because of it, consider seeing a sex therapist.

I have paralysis, and what can I do now I have many troubles and can't do anything.

Master of Speech Language Pathology
Speech Therapist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate-user, paralysis causes difficulty in moving either leg or hand of one side of the body. In such case you need to attend physical therapy to improve your mobility and strength and occupational therapy to improve your hand functions. In case of any speech language and swallowing problems, you need to consult a speech language pathologist. You need to keep in mind that more you use the muscles better they become. Try to be active as much as possible and try not to be dependent on your family members for daily activities.

Hi doctor. When I was 6 months old I had polio however with the required care given I did not paralyzed me totally. But there is a weird thing my left leg is thinner and my right hand is thinner. Hello lybrate-user, fortunately you are with positive mind, definitely you should do exercises on order to prevent further dystrophy (wasting of muscles) and to build up strength, endurance and overall functional independence. Best advice for you is hire a physiotherapist who can treat you at your home after a proper assessment. For your left leg depending upon the evaluation and current status of your condition, you may need to do quadriceps strengthening, hamstrings strengthening, gastroc-soleus strengthening, adductor & abductor strengthening, tfl and gluteus medius maximus strengthen, gemellus superior/inferior strengthening. For right hand do elbow flexor and extensor strengthening, wrist flexor extensor strengthening, finger strengthening. Hope it helps. Take care.

I suffer from severe migraine at times. How do I overcome from this health problem? Please do suggest some remedies that I can practice from home. Thanks.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Avoid triggers. If certain foods or odors seem to have triggered your migraines in the past, avoid them. Reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake and avoid tobacco. In general, establish a daily routine with regular sleep patterns and regular meals. In addition, try to control stress. Exercise regularly. Regular aerobic exercise reduces tension and can help prevent migraines. If your doctor agrees, choose any aerobic exercise you enjoy, including walking, swimming and cycling. Warm up slowly, however, because sudden, intense exercise can cause headaches. Obesity is also thought to be a factor in migraine headaches, and regular exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight or lose weight.

Severe Headache - Can it Be Migraine?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
Severe Headache - Can it Be Migraine?

One of the most debilitating conditions that anyone can experience is migraine. They can severely limit you by affecting your personal and professional life as you are in constant pain. Migraine can manifest in a type of headache with intense pain, an acute sensitivity to light, nausea and vomiting. Often described as a severe throbbing pain in the head, it may stop you from completing regular daily tasks and may delay or postpone your work.

How can migraines be treated?
The exact cause for these debilitating migraine pain hasn't been pointed out yet, but certain triggers such as stress, hormonal changes in the menstrual cycle, sun exposure, bright or flashing lights, among many others have been identified. The first line of defense for you would be to understand and identify what your triggers are. Once that is done, you can try and avoid them. If these still trigger a migraine or are about to trigger one, you can immediately take medications or steps to control it or at least lessen the pain to go through your day. Some of the options you can employ to this effect are mentioned below.

  1. Medications to prevent a migraine attack: The medications mentioned here are specialized treatments and can only be taken after a consultation with a doctor. If you are deemed as a candidate for preventative medication for migraines, then either one or a combination of drugs from the following may be prescribed to you.
    • Valproate and Topiramate are anti-seizure medications which can be used to prevent migraines.
    • Propranolol, a type of beta blocker and used for cardio vascular problems, has proven to be very effective in preventing migraines.
    • Onabotulinumtoxin A or a type of Botox, has shown a lot of promise in preventing migraines and is being slowly rolled out as a proper drug as a treatment option.
    • Certain antidepressants have also shown to be quite effective in reducing the symptoms of migraines as well.
  2. Medications to relieve pain: Some of the go to medications that help relieve your pain from migraine are mentioned below. Although some of them are OTC (over the counter) drugs, it is best advised that you consult with your doctor for medications which suit you better. The side effects of these medications can be bad and thus, it is not advised to continue them in the long run and to find other means to control pain from migraines. Some of the medications to relieve pain temporarily are:
    • Triptan is a drug used to treat severe migraines
    • Caffeine along with Ergotamine can also help dull the pain and deal with it.
    • Ibuprofen and aspirin and Acetaminophen are common pain killers that you can use
    • Codeine, which contains opioids are also used to treat this problem.
    • Metoclopramide and chlorpromazine are two examples of anti-nausea medications as vomiting along with nausea may frequently accompany your migraine.

Always remember that these medications can have strong side effects if not taken properly, therefore do not just pop a pill, consult your physician first and know which one should you take and how frequently. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

I am suffering from bad snoring while sleeping. Some time very loud. I think its sleep apnea, something very normally...
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

Menstrual Migraines Treatment

MBBS, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Advanced Infertility
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Menstrual Migraines Treatment

Menstrual Migraine can be termed as an extremely persistent headache that can happen just before, during or right after menstruation. Often, the feeling of nausea also keeps on lingering. The cause which triggers this type of migraine can be the fluctuating levels of oestrogen that a woman’s body experiences when she is on her periods.

What can be the possible treatment?

  1. Application of ice pack or simply rubbing ice on your forehead can help lessen the pain a bit.

  2. Relaxation exercises can be practiced to reduce the tension of the muscles.

  3. Acupuncture therapy can also be done to improve the headache and it can further aid in relaxation of the muscles.

  4. Over the counter painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol can be taken for immediate relief.

  5. Your doctor can also administer TRIPTAN (specific drugs used to treat the symptoms of migraine which work on the chemical receptors within the brain) if the pain is unbearable.

  6. Do not experiment much with hormonal contraception methods after unsafe sexual intercourse. It just might worsen the pain.

  7. NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) can also be administered, only if they have been prescribed by the doctor, as the harmful effects of those drugs are aplenty.

  8. Magnesium deficiency in the body is one of the most important causes for menstrual migraines. Thus, eating foods rich in magnesium such as dark leafy greens, nuts, whole grains, avocados, bananas, etc. and taking magnesium supplements or vitamins are advisable.

  9. There are certain foods which can even trigger such attacks. They include foods packed with monosodium glutamate (MSG), aged cheese and caffeine. Such foods should be strictly avoided. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

MBBS, Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL)

Migrae migraine is more of a preventable disease than curative. You have to identify the triggers of your headache and avoid them. Avoid exposure to bright light, loud sound, sunlight. Avoid stress. Avoid chocolate and coffee. Have enough sleep. Drink 3-4 litres of water daily. I can prescribe you prophylactic medicines too if you want.

Dear lybrate-user For homeo treatment you should send me the details as there are so many reasons of migrane. Nonetheless, there are therapies you can try at home to relieve your migraine pain, 1. Drink water 2. Drink caffeine as Caffeine can restrict blood vessels, it can lessen pain, it’s a constituent of some pain over-the-counter pain medicines, but it can also trigger headaches for some people,” Grosberg said. “If someone uses caffeine excessively, it can cause a rebound headache, making existing headaches worse.” 3. Tying a headband around the head 4. Fish oil Enthusiasts claim that fish oil reduces inflammation and works by restricting the blood vessels in your temples. Grosberg said there's no sound evidence, but he recommends trying it. 5. Peppermint oil Rub it on the part of your head that hurts. 6. Eat ginger or take ginger capsules.
