Hypersomnia, or excessive sleepiness, is a condition in which a person has trouble staying awake during the day. People who have hypersomnia can fall asleep at any time, for instance, at work or while they are driving. They may also have other sleep-related problems, including a lack of energy and trouble thinking clearly.
HOW IS HYPERSOMNIA DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of the same is done through blood tests, EEG, CT scan and also a very common kind of sleep test called polysomnography. Based on this treatment is provided.
HOW IS HYPERSOMNIA TREATED?
There are various drugs that treat Hypersomnia. Antidepressants, stimulants, and other medications are commonly prescribed. If any medication that you are already having causes drowsiness, the doctor may ask you to discontinue that. Abstaining from alcohol and caffeine is also important when undergoing treatment for Hypersomnia
