Trimetazidine

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Trimetazidine

Trimetazidine is used for the treatment of chest tightness, medically known as angina pectoris. This medicine also prevents a sudden rise in blood pressure and also helps in reducing the frequency of angina attacks.

It works by producing a good supply of oxygen for the cells of the heart. The medicine also slows the beta-oxidation of fatty acids by blocking long-chain 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase, which increases glucose oxidation.

This medication is available in the form of a tablet or a capsule and should be taken with water. For better results take the medicine according to the doctor’s prescription.

You should talk to your doctor about all the medications, allergies, and medical history. It’s best recommended to discontinue this drug if there is no response after 3 months of treatment. Patients with moderate kidney problems and above 75 years should exercise caution.
