About O2 Tablet

O2 Tablet is a combination medication primarily prescribed for treating diarrhoea and/or dysentery. It comprises antibacterial and antiamoebic drugs that fight against parasitic and bacterial infections. It is very effective in treating infectious conditions due to its dual action.

This medication inhibits the production of certain enzymes in the DNA of a bacteria, which are necessary for the survival and growth of this bacterial infections. Therefore, this antibiotic drug fights against bacterial infections by killing the bacteria and inhibiting the process of bacterial cell division.

It is advisable to take this medication only under the strict guidelines of your doctor. Follow this prescription until the course is complete, even if the symptoms disappear. You should not skip a dose and avoid taking an extra tablet to make up for it. Maintain adequate hydration (2-3 L/day of fluids unless instructed to restrict fluid intake).

It is possible for some people to experience a few common side effects after taking this medication. Some people are more likely to face harmful side effects if they also suffer from other conditions like brain disorders, seizures, heart conditions, myasthenia gravis, epilepsy, tendonitis, bone disorders and problems of the joints.

It is advisable to inform your doctor about the above-mentioned conditions beforehand if he/she recommends you take this medicine. It is advisable for pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding, and children below 16 years, to avoid taking this antibiotic since it can lead to harmful consequences.

Symptoms of overdose include acute renal failure, seizures, nausea, and vomiting. Treatment includes GI decontamination, if possible, and supportive care.

Take per recommended schedule; complete the full course of therapy and do not skip doses. Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, dairy products, antacids, or other medication). Maintain adequate hydration (2-3 L/day of fluids unless instructed to restrict fluid intake).

    This medicine is a combination of Ofloxacin and Ornidazole belonging to the class antibacterial and antiamoebic. Thus the medication follows a dual mechanism to produce its action. Firstly, it works as a bactericidal by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, which is essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to expansion and destabilization of the bacterial DNA and causes cell death. Secondly, it works by seeping into the cells of the bacteria and/or protozoa through diffusion and damaging DNA and other critical biomolecules through the formation of reactive nitro radicals.

        The medicine can interact with alcohol and produce negative results thus leading to health issues like drowsiness, fatigue, sleepiness or loss of coordination.
