Asenapine

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Asenapine

Asenapine is an atypical antipsychotic that is used to treat schizophrenia. It is used along with valproate and lithium to treat manic episodes. It works by inhibiting the secretion of certain chemicals in the body.

You should not use Asenapine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. If you are taking other antipsychotic medicines, an antiarrhythmic like sotalol and procainamide, then Asenapine is not to be taken as well. This is also the case if you have an irregular heartbeat or suffer from severe liver problems.

The tablet of Asenapine must be taken whole and not chewed or crushed. Nothing must be drunk or eaten ten minutes after you have taken the medicine. Try to take it every day and at the same time to get the most benefits out of it.

Some of the side effects that may be seen as a result of taking Asenapine may be weight gain, dizziness, upset stomach, insomnia, restlessness, joint aches and temporary numbness around the mouth area.
