About Andial 2 MG Tablet

This tablet is a medicine that treats sudden diarrhoea by slowing down the movement of the gut. This reduces bowel movements and makes stool less watery. It is used to treat gastroenteritis, short bowel disease and inflammatory bowel disease. It also helps those with blood in the stool. This medication is administered orally.

Common side effects include abdominal pain, sleepiness, constipation, vomiting, and a dry mouth. Risk of toxic megacolon may increase. However, if used in normal doses it hardly shows any side effects. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it ingredients, if you suffer from abdominal pain without diarrhoea, if you have constipation, stomach bloating, bloody stools, or dark and tarry stools.

    • Missed Dose instructions

      This medicine is not taken in a scheduled way and hence missing a dose is not possible. However, care should be taken to not exceed the daily recommended limit.

      Contact a doctor immediately if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, confusion, severe stomach cramps and pain, constipation etc.

    How does this medication work?

    This tablet acts on the opioid receptors present in the walls of the food pipe and reduces the rhythmic contraction known as peristalsis. Thus food stays longer in the intestine and more water and electrolyte is absorbed from it. This relieves the symptoms of diarrhea and makes the stool more solid. This medicine also increases the tone of anal opening and reduces the sense of urgency associated with diarrhea.

      Whenever you take more than one medicine, or mix it with certain foods or beverages, you"re at risk of a drug interaction.

        Ethanol

        Use of alcohol should be avoided or restricted while you are taking this medicine. Activities requiring a high level of mental alertness should be avoided at least in the initial part of treatment with this medicine.
