Surrogacy is when a woman acts as the surrogate mother for the parents who intend to have children. The Surrogate mother will be carrying and delivering the baby for the parents. Surrogacy treatment includes straight surrogacy, host surrogacy and host surrogacy with host eggs. In Straight or traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother uses insemination kit to be pregnant from the semen of the intended father. Here the surrogate mother's egg and sperm of the donor or intended father will be fertilized. In host or gestational surrogacy the egg of the intended mother is fertilized and therefore surrogate mother does not use her own eggs. When compared to traditional surrogacy, host surrogacy method is more expensive. In host surrogacy, egg donation is the first stage followed by the fertilization in the external environment like a laboratory. The fertilized egg will be transferred into the womb of surrogate mother. In host surrogacy with donor's egg there are several options like known donor egg and anonymous donor egg. In known donor egg treatment, a friend or relative of the intended parents donate eggs to be fertilized and transferred to the womb of the surrogate mother. In anonymous egg donors, the intended parents receive the egg from the IVF clinic and mostly have limited information about the donor. India stands as the leading nation in surrogacy due to the availability of surrogates and less durrogacy treatment cost when compared to other nations.
