Skin marked by scars is often termed as scarred skin. Normal healing process of the tissue is what results in a scar.The scar could be of a normal skin injury, burn mark, surgery or skin allergy. The visibility of scars depends upon the damage caused to the skin. The colour of the scars could vary from dark brown to light pink.
HOW IS SCARRED SKIN DIAGNOSED?
Scars are almost always diagnosed by visual inspection. There are a number of rare situations when it may be necessary to examine scar tissue under the microscope to confirm its true identity. This would require a biopsy of the skin and may require the injection of a local anesthetic. Sometimes other skin conditions can form in a scar and require a biopsy in order to be diagnosed.
HOW IS SCARRED SKIN TREATED?
Scars are mostly harmless because they are part of the natural healing process. Only superficial scars that become cosmetically undesirable may require removal. In some cases Scarred Skin may develop keloids. Injection of steroids helps flatten the fibrous scar tissue.
