Hypersomnia or excessive sleepiness is a condition that causes a person to feel sleepy throughout the day. As opposed to Insomnia, Hypersomnia causes trouble in staying awake during the day. The major symptoms and signs of Hypersomnia include constant tiredness, low energy, anxiety, loss of appetite, restlessness, and slow thinking or speech.
HOW IS HYPERSOMNIA DIAGNOSED?
The primary cause of Hypersomnia is due to a problem in the brain system that controls sleep and waking functions. A Somnologist/General Physician/Ayurvedic Doctor diagnoses Hypersomnia by conducting a physical test to check for its symptoms. Also, the doctor can recommend Polysomnogram, or multiple sleep latency tests to diagnose Hypersomnia.
HOW IS HYPERSOMNIA TREATED?
In some cases, the treatment for underlying problems like sleep apnea are given. Alongside, if there is no other issues involved then the demonology expert would give you some antidepressants and sleep inducing medicines. They would also suggest alternate therapies like massage and relaxation to induce sleep.
DID YOU KNOW?
This condition is similar to narcolepsy in that you are extremely sleepy. It is different from narcolepsy because idiopathic hypersomnia does not usually involve suddenly falling asleep (sleep attacks) or losing muscle control due to strong emotions (cataplexy). Also, unlike narcolepsy, naps in idiopathic hypersomnia are usually not refreshing.
