Diastema is a condition that is represented as gaps in the teeth. This is majorly a cosmetology condition as the spaces between teeth look very unappealing. The most common is the spacing between the front two teeth in the upper jaw. The most common cause for this condition is low muscle attachment. A significant diastema may cause a problem with eating.
HOW IS DIASTEMA DIAGNOSED?
Dentists can diagnose Diastema through physical examination. He or she may order for a dental X-ray to ascertain the alignment of teeth.
HOW IS DIASTEMA TREATED?
Diastema is an adjustable dental condition. Traditional treatment of diastema is through wearing braces, dental bands and direct dental bonding. However, there are chances of relapse after orthodontic correction. In such conditions a permanent retainer may be attached to the inner surface of the teeth. Invisalign is another treatment method for diastema.
