Cherubism is a disorder that is characterized by abnormal growth of bone tissue in the lower part of the face. The condition usually begins in early childhood when both the lower and upper jaws become enlarged due to presence of painless cysts. This is a rare genetic disorder with prominence showing enlarged lower jaw. The most prominent symptom is the enlargement of the jaws without any pain.
HOW IS CHERUBISM DIAGNOSED?
The condition is only diagnosed when there is a dentistryissue that becomes prominent enough for investigation. This is the reason why the condition is not diagnosed early. There could be abnormal growth of permanent teeth due to displacement of the jaw bones.
HOW IS CHERUBISM TREATED?
The treatment is dependent on individual case as well as the stage as the condition tends to improve over time. In most case, surgical correction is the only treatment option.
