Carcinoid tumour is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the neuroendocrine system of the body. The tumour appears in the abdomen, usually near the appendix or in the stomach, pancreas, kidneys, ovaries and testicles. The carcinoid syndrome refers to the set of symptoms that occur when the carcinoid tumour spreads to the liver and starts releasing the hormone serotonin in to the bloodstream. The condition does not show any significant symptoms in the early stages. Even if you do experience symptoms, they are quite regular such as stomach or abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, weight loss and general fatigue.
HOW IS CARCINOID DIAGNOSED?
The following tests are used to diagnose a carcinoid:
2. Molecular testing of the tumor
