A birth defect, which affects how the body looks and works, can vary from mild to severe. The severity as well as the kind of defect will usually influence the type of treatment that will be used by the pediatrician or any other specialist. Surgeries and medication may be required for defects that can affect the overall quality of the baby’s life.
