Junk food or empty calories is a pejorative term for food containing high levels of calories from sugar or fat with little protein, vitamins orminerals. Use of the term implies that a particular food has little" nutritional value" and contains excessive fat, sugar, salt, and calories. Junk food can also refer to high protein food containing large amounts of meat prepared with, for example, too much unhealthy saturated fat; many hamburger outlets, fried chicken outlets and the like supply food is considered as junk food. Alcohol does not give you nutrients and gives you as much calories as fat does. Therefore, alcohol is an empty calorie food.

I am both a registered dietitian and a doctor who will help you in losing your weight .Let me know your food intake details.The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to Weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there's more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0.5-1.0kg) a week I being a registered Dietitian strongly accommodate the patients own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. Don't fall for self dieting or fad diets availiable online they have harmful effects in the long run, if you lose a lot of weight very quickly, you may not lose as much fat as you would with a more modest rate of weight loss. Instead, you might lose water weight or even lean muscle tissue, since it's hard to burn that many fat calories in a short period. I am a 72 yrs old male diabetic since 20 years, my diabetes is under control with medication and insulin injections. But I am having diabetic peripheral neuropathy and find it difficult to walk due to imbalance and foot pain. Is there any medicines for dpn.

You are still young, imbalance due to age factor still you take some kind of multivitamin for weakness and try to use joint pain killer (ayurvedic) to reduce pain and take support of calcium, that's it. Hope for your long life.

I have weight loss issues. How do I fix it in less time?
1. Excessive weight gain is caused when people consume more calories than the body needs—occurring most commonly due to eating a diet high in fat and calories, being sedentary, or both. This imbalance between calories consumed and calories burned, however, can also be caused by a number of different obesity-related factors such as genetic, hormonal, behavioral, environmental and, to some extent, cultural. There are many other factors causing obesity such as pregnancy, tumors as well as endocrine disorders and medications that include psychotic drugs, estrogens, corticosteroids and insulin 2. Dear to decrease your weight you have to do work out daily. Try the remedies below they can help u. 1. Mix three teaspoons of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey, and one-half teaspoon of black pepper powder in one glass of water. 2. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. 3. Do this daily for at least three months. 4. Drink mint tea or make a paste of green mint with some simple spices and eat during meals. 5. Eat vegetables such as bitter gourd and drumsticks to control obesity. 6. Do bhujang asana, dhanurasana, naukasana, kumbhakasana, pavanamukthasana daily 10 min per asana. 7. Do running early morning daily and join aerobics in evening. 8. Avoid oily and fried foods, processed foods, fatty foods like butter, purified butter, cheese, whole-milk yogurt, cream, chocolate, etc. 9.Replace refined flour with whole-wheat flour and rice with brown rice or parboiled rice. Either your physical activity is not proper or else you r not eating a healthy and a balanced diet with with timeings start eating a healthy diet n do some physical activity as well if your weight is increasing day by day then you can get disease as weight is the first sign for many disease.

I'm preparing for a 10k running event. What precautions should I take to ensure I remain injury proof during the training?

Hello lybrate-user, first of all congratulations for enrolling in 10k event. 1. The very first precaution is to prepare mentally as well physically for the event. 2. Before going for a training run always warm up. 3. Keep yourself hydrated. 4. Remember rome was not built in one day. Same way you have to make your body compatible to run such a long distance. For that increase the distance of running under the guidance of a trainer or join a group of people who are regular participants of such events 5. If you cannot find such a group and are preparing alone then start running for shorter distances at first and then as your stamina grows increase the distance. Your body shud b habitual to run for a long span of time which requires practice on a regular basis. 6. Don't practice everyday. Do it twice or thrice a week. Do cardio and breathing exercises in between days as it allows your body to recuperate. 7. Have proper nutrition to make up for your lost strength. 8. If you feel like a muscle spasm then don't try to run. Have a rest of a day or two. 9. Wear knee caps or brace to avoid injuries. If any query feel free to enquire. I wish you the best.

Your sleep is a little on the excessive side. I suggest you meet with a counselor and even a physician to make sure that other matters may not be contributing to your problems. It sounds like that the feeling of weakness and sleepiness may be connected to a mild depression. In the meantime do some of these recommendations very faithfully: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

Dear lybrate user, for gastric problems. Take green leafy vegetables which are easy to digest. Avoid fast food, junk food, oily food, spicy food, rice, potato, etc which are heavy to digest. Drink more water 3 litres per day. Walk for an hour 5 days in a week. Regular yogasan /pranayama/deep breathing exercise can sure help you. Pavanmuktasana, bhujangasana can help you. Take enough sleep 6 to 8 hours. Manage the stress and anger. Take enough rest. For vitamin d sunlight is the natural and best source. Take morning light sunlight it can help you. Mr rajendra, fasting 140 mg is high, please let me know are you on any medication for controlling blood sugar? if not on medication then controlling sugar will be difficult. There is no specific exercise, you have to walk, jog or do any other type but for an hour or more daily is a necessity.

Drink plenty of water, lemon juice and green tea. Do brisk walk for 15-30 min. Daily or yoga or aerobics or swimming. Avoid oily and fatty foods, junk food. Take plenty of salad and roughage. In case you need diet chart revert back.
