He has to be given any multivitamin mineral drops with iron and syp calcium for one year. Keep in mind to separate these two by at least two hours for better absorption of iron. You can start with home made salt free food for him like khichadi, rawa,(porridge)

Hi Dr. I am from bangalore I am recently blessed with a baby girl a month ago. As of now my baby is in my in laws plc. I have 4 dogs at home a pug, a lab, a pomeranian and a Siberia husky. They all are left free at home. I wanted to know what precautions to be taken when my baby return home and how they should be left to mingle with each other.

The baby should be kept away from dogs. Dogs should always be in supervision. They may bite or pass infection or cause allergy. Prevention of rabies in dogs be done by vaccination.

Hearing Loss in Children - Signs + Treatment

MBBS (M.A.M.C), M.S. ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
Hearing Loss in Children - Signs + Treatment

You may find out that your child is suffering from hearing loss when he is born or he may be diagnosed with the condition later in life. Hearing loss in children is commonly caused by otitis media, birth problems and on the account of certain injuries or illnesses.

Signs and symptoms

The early stage symptoms of hearing loss in children are as follows:

  1. No reaction to extremely loud noises

  2. No response or reaction to your voice

  3. The child makes some sounds, which taper off

The other symptoms which follow include:

  1. He may pull and rub his ears.

  2. He may act cranky constantly without any proper reason.

  3. He might stop paying attention.

  4. Low energy levels are indicated.

  5. He may find it hard to follow directions.

  6. He may ask you to increase the volume of the radio or TV.

  7. Fever and ear pain are also likely symptoms.

Treatment

Early hearing loss can affect your child’s language learning skills. If the problem is diagnosed and treated soon, the problem with language can be avoided. The method of treatment depends on the cause of hearing loss in your child and the severity of hearing loss.

There are certain medicines for hearing---prescribed by your ENT Surgeon. Pleas take the point watchful waiting. Even if you have slightest doubt of hearing loss contact ENT immediately.

The primary treatment methods of hearing loss in children include the following:

  1. Watchful waiting: Sometimes, the condition may resolve on its own and the treatment involves simple monitoring of your child for positive changes.

  2. Medicines: There are certain medicines for hearing loss in children, which may be prescribed by your pediatrician.

  3. Ear tubes: Ear tubes may be recommended if medicines and monitoring do not work. The tubes allow fluid to drain and help in preventing infections. A minor surgery has to be undertaken on your child for getting the ear tubes placed. This will solve the hearing loss and other related issues.

  4. Hearing aids: Hearing aids may be used to allow your child hear better. It is safe for children to use ear tubes after the age of one month. For the right hearing aid for your child, you need to consult a hearing specialist.

  5. Implants: Cochlear implants are used to treat hearing loss in many children. These are electronic devices which are put in the inner ear to benefit hearing. These should be used only if hearing aids did not succeed and these are meant to be used only in case of children with serious hearing problems.

There are several other devices, which can help your child with hearing loss. For suggestions and recommendations, you must take your child to a hearing specialist.

My 1 year old son is having phemosis, what should I do to avoid surgery?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
If there is no obstruction to urinary flow, we can call it physiologic phimosis. Pathologic phimosis that does not resolve naturally or causes other complications, including; penile irritation or bleeding, ballooning of the foreskin with urination resulting in forceful/difficult urination, urinary retention, painful urination (dysuria), painful erections, recurrent infections of the foreskin (balanoposthitis), paraphimosis (foreskin stuck in the retracted position behind the head of the penis), or urinary tract infections may require further treatment. You may consult a pediatric urologist for further evaluation.

My baby is 5 month old so after 5 month baby which type of eating food. Suggest me.
Madam five monthsplus baby may or maynot satisfy with breast milk alone. This can be best judged by weight gain of baby and demand of breast feeds. If twenty minutes of sucking should keep child playingfor four hrs. Means breast milk is enough. Same is fact for feed baby. 5-6 months is crucial to start semi liquid soup type of feeds two three times a day breast feed is continued at five hrs interval. Frequency of breast feed should never increased nor contd sucking beyond twenty minutes is advocated.

I have a daughter who is 8 month, 1 week old. My baby has not started teething yet. At present, I have only included brown rice kheer, rawa kheer, dal rice, chikoo and cerelac in her diet. I want to introduce her to new food stuff and want to know what else I can possibly include which will be more nutritious. 1. Are babies also suppose to have a breakfast, lunch, dinner pattern like adults? If yes, then what should be given during these times? 2. What should be the time gap between the three meals? 3. Should we give babies some snacks between the three meals? If yes, then what needs to be given? 4. Can I start her on chicken soup or mutton soup or should I give only vegetable soups for now? 5. If possible could I get a baby growth chart from you which can help me track her growth?

For 8 months old babies require meals every 3-4 hrs once. You can continue breast feeding along with these. You can give chicken. Or mutton or veg soup. But don't give pieces yet. Egg yellow can be added. Ragi. Dal. Rice. Wheat all in thick soups type. Or smashed. Teething for usually starts 8 months-1 yr. 2 months. Whenever the child cries for food you can feed it. Need not wait for 3 hrs to be complete. Every time a bowl of meal is required. Don't force to much neither let to loose.

Good morning. it is very difficult to suggest any thing without seeing the local condition of scalp and general condition of baby. this condition of hair may be due to malnutrition particularly of micronutrients and protein. you may add multi vitamins and Iron with rich protein diet. else you may consult skin specialist for any local lesion.
