Hello friends, myself Dr Rahul Bhargava I am a consultant ENT at M.G.Hospital and I have a clinic in Rohini sector 15. Today through this medium, I am going to talk about a very common problem in children and adults that is an earache or the pain in the ear. The pain in the ear can be due to local causes in the ear or it can be due to referred causes where the problem lies somewhere else and it is presented as pain in the ear. The common causes of an earache is especially in children is Otitis Media with effusion, which is water into the ear, otitis effusion which is the infection of the external part of the ear, Acute Suppurative Otitis Media which is the formation of pus behind the tympanic memory, a forum body or impacted earwax, these are few common problems which can lead to an earache and can be very troublesome in children. A forum body needs to remove as soon as it is detected, if you have impacted earwax and it is causing a problem then it needs to go. If you have acute suppurative otitis media there which is the inflammation and the pus behind tympanic memory then the usual cause lies in the nose. So we have to treat both the nose and the ear to solve the problem and prevent such frequent episode in the later on. Otitis media effusion is the very important cause of an earache in children it also leads to hearing difficulty and leads to developmental problems in children. The adenoid hypertrophy is a very usual cause which leads to otitis media with effusion and we need to tackle also along with an earache. The other important causes are the referred causes where the problem lies either in the temporomandibular joint which is the joint just in front of the ear or in the throat any infection in the throat or any problem in the throat can give rise to pain in the ear. So this is a very important topic we need to handle it very carefully and you can contact me if you have such problem. Thank you.

Ulcers in mouth: It is also known as apthus ulcers. They are very painful and restrict chewing and swallowing due to pain. Mainly it is due to Dyspepsia, consumption of heavy Antibiotics which kills normal Bacterial flora which makes vit B complex for our body. It is also due to mental tension. I have seen so many exam going students having ulcers in mouth and when exam is over it is cured . It is different from cancer ulcer as cancer ulcer is not painful and it doesn’t heal. High dose of Vit B , pain killing oral paste, Tratment of constipation, Stopage of Heavy antibiotics added to it , etc as per requirement helps the pt.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, M.Ch - Plastic Surgery

Dear, the bone, occupying upper half of nose usually does not increase or decrease after 18 yrs. Rarely in some diseases, there can be increase, due to sinus or turbinates (air moisteners in nose) problem, which is better decided by a good ent surgeon. Make sure you really have increase of bone size recently or not before proceeding to them.

I am on the following allergy medications everyday for the past 5 to 6 years. Telekast 10 tabs, flutiflo nasal spray and combitide 250 inhaler. I very desperately want to discontinue all meds. Can you please show a way? I tried being off Telekast for 20 odd days and started using the inhaler and nasal spray on alternate days but today I was forced to start all the things again as I am finding it difficult to breathe because of a blocked nose and that in turn has started a headache. Please advise. Pls also tell me about the long term side effects that I may get by continuing the meds.

Hi. Certainly there are side effects on long term use. U can take Homeopathic medicines for your current prob which are free from side effects. For selection of proper Homeopathic Remedy we need case study. Medicines are selected considering person as a whole not only signs & symptoms. Consult here Privately or Homeopath Nearby You for further advice & Rx. Till then continue your previuos medication as it is. Tc Regards.

I have a sinus problem am struggling for lot of days and also I had surgery also after that also I didn't found any differences.

DORL, MBBS
ENT Specialist, Faridabad
If a person suffering from nasal obstruction with mild to moderate nasal allergies it means most probably he is suffering from dns (deviated nasal septum. Nasal obstruction is because of the deviated portion of the nasal septum (this is the bony partition of the nose cavity. Allergies are because of the hampered muco-ciliary mechanism (normally mucus is produced in the nose to moisten our nose cavity, oral cavity, and help food bolus to move downward, this mucus is basically moves on the cilia of the nasal mucosa) this mechanism gets hampered and mucus start accumulating in the nose and sinus cavity which is why thick mucus comes from nose in patients of nose obstruction and person develops sinusiits. When a surgeon removes the nasal septum deviation has not been removed properly the symptoms persists, and patient thinks that the nose bone has again regrown. It is not because of regrowth but because of half surgery done or due to the non removal of the deviation (reason can be many) nowadays nasal septal deviation can be removed endoscopically.
