Diabetes - How it Impacts Your Eyes?

M.S
Ophthalmologist, Ahmedabad
Diabetes - How it Impacts Your Eyes?

If you are diabetic then it is important that you consult a ophthalmologist for regular check-ups. Diabetes is known to be one of main causes for blindness across all age groups. If you suffer from bouts of blurred vision then it is not likely due to a long term vision problem. It is temporary and usually occurs due to fluctuating blood sugar levels in the body.

How diabetes affects your eyes?
The lens of your eyes can swell if you are a diabetic, and this can impair your ability to see causing blurry vision. In order to rectify this problem, it is important for you to get your blood sugar levels under optimal levels. This entire procedure of reducing blood sugar levels may take three months or more.

Eye problems that are caused by diabetes
The major eye problems that can occur due to diabetes are

  1. CataractCataract occurs when the lens of your eyes become foggy or cloudy. Although cataract mostly occurs to people who are middle aged or above sixty, you can get affected by this disorder at an earlier age if you are diabetic. Also, the deterioration or clouding of the lens progresses at a much faster rate than usual. Cataracts lead to an inability to focus as the retina is covered by cloudy layer.
  2. GlaucomaThis is another disorder that can occur due to diabetes. This is characterized by the buildup of pressure in the eye due to the fluids within it not draining properly. This intense pressure damages the nerves and blood vessels in the eyes, thus impairing your ability to see.
  3. Diabetic RetinopathyDiabetic retinopathy is a disorder characterized by damage to the vessels in the retina that carry blood. It can occur if you have either of the type 2 or type 1 diabetes. If not treated in time it can lead to blindness.

If you have a history of diabetes or even borderline diabetic tendencies, it is highly advisable to constantly check your blood sugar levels and also get your eye checked at regular intervals, especially if you feel even the minutest vision problems.

You might be having a refractive error & may need glasses. Visit your ophthalmologist to rule it out. Once it is ruled out, then try other therapies.

Crossed Eyes - How Can It Be Treated

Cornea Cataract & Lasik

Crossed Eyes - How Can It Be Treated

Vision is one of our most important senses. Reduced vision that triggers the need for corrective glasses is one of the most common disorders associated with the eyes. Crossed eyes are another such common disorder that affects the eyes. In medical terms it is also known as Strabismus. This condition is a result of miscommunication between the brain and the eye muscles that result in misalignment of the eyes. It is largely a hereditary condition and should not be confused with a lazy eye syndrome.

Crossed eyes can cause double vision and disorientation. Your depth perception may also be affected. It also causes eye strains and headaches that affect the quality of your life. This condition is seen mostly in children. If not treated in time, it can continue into the adult years as well. The development of crossed eyes in adults who have not suffered from this condition as children is usually a sign of a serious condition such as a stroke.

Some symptoms characteristic of this condition are:

  1. Independent movement of eye balls
  2. Tilting the head to a side
  3. Squinting
  4. Varied points of reflection in each eye
  5. Frequently bumping into things as a result of impaired depth perception.

Treatment for this condition can be surgical as well as non surgical. Non surgical treatment aims at strengthening the eye muscles and treating the visual system as a whole. The aim is to not allow the eye to become lazy or amblyopic. Wearing an eye patch over the strong eye and forcing the weak eye to be used is one of the most common form of this treatment. Corrective glasses can also be used to treat this condition in cases where it has been triggered by excessive farsightedness. In some cases, medication may also be injected into the eye to relax the eye muscles.

Surgery to correct this disorder involves correcting vision by strengthening or weakening the eye muscles. To do this, a surgeon must first make a small incision in the outer layer of the eyeball to reach the affected muscles. To strengthen the muscle a small section is removed from the muscle and the remaining part is then rejoined. This makes the muscle shorter and forces the eye to turn towards that side. Alternatively, the doctor may make a partial cut across the muscle to elongate it and let the eye turn further away from it.

I have myopia problem. How can cure instantly and naturally? Please give homemade tips!

I have myopia problem. How can cure instantly and naturally? Please give homemade tips!
There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 21 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

Episcleritis is a recurrent disease. It's an inflammatory condition. You should use a mild steroid drop in tapering dose ( ex- Tobastar F eye drop 6 times x 4days 5times. X 4days ..... till once x 4days ) By this time redness of d eyes will go away, then start Flur eye drop 3 times for 3 months The recurrence rate will go down to a large extent with this treatment.

Relax, in babies both eyes work independently up to six months. Feed him with breast milk, play with him and talk to him as if you are talking to your great friend. Watch him grow and enjoy.

Hi lybrate-user, Fatigue can also be the result of a faulty immune system. There are some people that are not able to take rest or go for a proper sleep until they finish the task they had undertaken. Such people are more prone to suffer from chronic fatigue and are always tensed and under some pressure. There are various home remedies that can store back your lost energy and rejuvenate you. Home Remedy for Fatigue 1. Take 3 drops of rosemary essential oil, 7 drops of lavender essential oil, 2 drops of peppermint oil, 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of sea salt. Place all the ingredients in an air tight container and shake well. Take some hot water in a bath tub and add all the ingredients just before going for bath. 2. Take a bath in this water for around 15 minutes and after that take a shower with cold water. Lavender provides soothing effect, rosemary provides energizing effects and peppermint provides upliftment. 3. An individual suffering from fatigue should have a proper nutritious diet. Include lots of cereals in your diet like wheat seeds, maize seeds, rye seeds, corn seeds, oat seeds etc. The cereals used should be finely milled. 4. Add a pinch of cardamom powder to your tea. This gives an instantaneous effect of revitalization. Sprinkle fresh ground cinnamon on your breakfast cereal, porridge, toast or whatever. Cinnamon can triple the ability of insulin in metabolizing glucose. 5. Drink plenty of fresh fruit juices to get rid of fatigue and especially grapefruit juice is very good for this purpose. A mixture of grape juice and lemon juice works well to combat fatigue. 6. Mint tea is another helpful home remedy to cure fatigue. Peppermint improves alertness and the ability to focus. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
