Does playing with small kids or babies is helpful in the treatment of depression?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Does playing with small kids or babies is helpful in the treatment of depression?
It does make mood a bit better, but may not help for moderate to severe depression, which needs a course of antidepressants. All the best.

Dear user, You must be able to understand Concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Please post a private question to me and I will help you with "effective learning" techniques. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration. Take care.

You could be having a lot of anger. If it is because of this relationship breakup then deal with this anger and your headaches and depression will just disappear in thin air. Relationships will come and go many times in ones life. You cannot take it too seriously unless you were thinking of marrying the guy. In fact, this is a common problem with a lot of girls, where you look at the first relationship that comes along as serious enough for matrimony. These are important associations to learn how the opposite sex functions and what happens to you around them, and to make the necessary corrections to become a suitable partner. You may have put in a lot into this relationship and it has not worked. Leave it but please learn something from the experience. Besides, you don't want to be in a relationship where the other person is not interested in you. Quickly get rid of all reminders of this boy, and do not visit the old haunts that you and this guy used to frequent. For some time avoid people, places, and situations that you two enjoyed. In the meantime, please talk extensively to a confidante or counselor about your feelings and thoughts to externalize it out of your system. Do not bad mouth the boy for any reason but go about your life as quickly and normally as possible. Don't get into another relationship until you have dealt with this loss completely. Keep these three values in mind: be responsible, be respectful and be functional, always.

Dear, pandas, is an abbreviation for pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections. The term is used to describe a subset of children who have obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) and/or tic disorders. Pandas is a pediatric disorder. It is possible that adolescents and adults may have immune mediated ocd. According to research reports, adults cannot have pandas. The treatments for children with pandas are the same as if they had other types of ocd or tic disorders. Children with ocd, regardless of whether or not their illness is strep triggered, benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy and/or anti-obsessional medications. Please consult the doctor who diagnosed pandas in you. Take care.

Sir Mai I smoking karta hu Mai karib 15 saal se Kar raha hu but mughe chhodna hai kaise isko chhod sakta hu Please koi medicine bataiye jisasae ki chhod du smoking bilkul.

Best age to stop smoking is before 40 ,In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco/ or drugs or drinking or using drugs/ weed, avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.

Dear lybrate-user kasif. Welcome to lybrate. I can understand. Loosing someone near and dear is called grief and depression related to grief is pretty normal. But this sort of depression does not stay for long. This depression gets cleared within a span of some weeks. The best option for you is to undergo counseling and depression related therapy. Take care.

5 Ways to Fight Depression If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.
