Hello lybrate user arthritis in old age especially in weight bearing joints is common. Its disorder of joint. A condition related to joint has not cured totally only prevented. Joints articulated surface became rough and irregular & cartilage torn. We can restore a joint by avoiding some position as squatting, fast climbing stair without support, avoid heavy weight lifting, forward bending position s, etc. Pain and stiffness can reduce by physiotherapy treatment. To provide strength to muscle exercises are advisable under supervision of good qualified physiotherapist only. By using knee brace or support your joint remains stable. In case of severe arthritis suggested by practioner then joints need replacement. But these days replacement surgeries become more comfortable with best results.

Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. It is arthrosis of acromio-clavicualar joint which is common in some patients. I can advise you physical therapy, short course of anti-inflammatory medications which is usually enough, if not an injection can be given at inflammed site. If problem persists then you let me know, and can also send me the x rays so that I can see the grade of arthrosis and advise you accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena

Arthritis - Foods To Avoid!

BHOM, MD - Alternate Medicine, Diploma in Weight Loss, Diploma in Nutrition, DNHE

Arthritis - Foods To Avoid!

Arthritis is defined as a disease that causes painful inflammation and stiffness in joints. There are some food items, which you should avoid if you are suffering from arthritis since they can worsen your condition and lead to inflammation and joint pain. Stick to a smart, nutritious diet that doesn't make you gain weight.

The following food items should be struck off your daily meals:

  1. Red Meat: Red meat has high levels of saturated fat. Patients of arthritis must avoid consuming foods containing saturated fat because they contribute to obesity. They also contain Omega-6 fatty acids, which lead to inflammation if the intake is high. Red meat contributes to higher overall fat and calorie intake.
  2. Sugar and Refined Flour: Sugar and refined flour may cause an upsurge in blood sugar levels. When there is a spike in your blood sugar levels, the body produces a pro-inflammatory chemical called cytokines to break down the carbohydrates. This results in inflammation, worsening your arthritis symptoms. They also increase your weight, putting more and more pressure on the joints.
  3. Fried Foods: Eliminating fried foods from your diet helps in reducing the levels of inflammation. Fried foods increase oxidation in the body's cells due to toxins called advanced glycation endproducts or age. They are high in fat and lead to obesity. Moreover, most restaurants use hydrogenated oils which are rich in trans fats. Trans fats are even more harmful than saturated fats when it comes to inflammation, chronic heart diseases and other health problems.
  4. Alcohol and tobacco: High intake of alcohol causes a surge in the body levels of CRP or C - reactive protein which is a powerful agent of inflammation. The risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis is higher among smokers.
  5. Processed Foods: Foods that are ready to eat and require minimal cooking contain several ingredients that cause inflammation. They are loaded with saturated fats, refined flour and sugar and are extremely unhealthy and worsen arthritic pain.
  6. Corn Oil: Many foods, especially baked foods, are cooked in corn oil or other oils which are rich in omega 6 fatty acids and trigger inflammation. Corn oil can be replaced with olive oil that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which is anti-inflammatory. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.

Hii I am AJIT Singh my problem is that my back is always pain please best suggestion me how to recover it.

COMT, MPTh/MPT

Hii I am AJIT Singh my problem is that my back is always pain please best suggestion me how to recover it.
Nowadays back pain is a very common complaint in young adults. So donot worry. It can be due to various reasons any injury, muscle strain eg-sudden twist while lifting object, bad posture, overuse of muscle or any internal disease like spondylitis, infection etc. Many of the problem occurs for which we are not aware. After looking at your pain I can recommend you following treatment. Precautions: 1. Avoid forward bending, if required then bend your knees first and then bend forward. 2. Avoid weight lifting. 3. Sit in chairs or car seats with proper back support. 4. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back like sidelying. 5. Get enough vit d from sun as vit d keep bones strong including spine, 6. Drink plenty of water to enhance the inter vertebral disks 7. Avoid standing in the one position for a long time. 8. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back. Physio care: I would recommend you for i-care treatment that is especially for back or neck pain. Rest required but it doesn't mean a complete bed rest. Do not over exert your body. Work take rest and then work so that you do not feel tired and started paining. Treatment- 1. Apply ice or heat which ever suits you directly to the area of low back pain will decrease swelling and inflammation, and ease your discomfort. Apply it for 10 to 15 minutes only. 2. Relaxing for 5 minutes after ice or heat treatment. Massage - ask someone to massage your painful area using fingers or thumb. Massage using kneading technique. Slightly press the thumb and start rotating as it helps to induce relaxation, relieve pain, and reduce levels of stress chemicals, such as cortisol and noradrenaline. It will give you pain relief for time being. 3. After massage again relax for 5 min and apply any pain relieving ointment eg - volini or oraflame gel etc. Make sure not to do massage with the gel, it should not penetrate the body. Just a topical application of gel should be done. 4. Again relax your body for 5 minutes and perform some normal back extension and hamstring stretching exercises to get relief from your pain. While performing exercises if pain occurs then would recommend you to stop doing exercise. Massage or slightly rub the painful area and consult your near by physio to diagnose the actual cause of the pain as he/she can guide you proper exercise plan which will be beneficial for you after checking grade of your back pain. If you did not understand or have any doubt regarding the i-care plan, please inform or send me an email at swatisagar121@gmail. Com.

A muscle strain in one or more of the quadriceps muscles represents the most common cause of leg pain from stair climbing. Other possible injuries include inflammation of the rectus femoris tendon or iliotibial band syndrome. Other possible injuries include inflammation of the rectus femoris tendon or iliotibial band syndrome. When you start to notice that your legs feel weak all the time whenever you climb stairs, then it may indicate a more serious underlying condition. See a physiotherapist immediately if your symptoms aren't relieved by icing and rest. Best wishes.
