Hi, I am 27 years old. I am an advocate from past 1 & half year. I live in a joint family & everyday is hell because of my grandmother. Almost daily there is fight going on one or other issues. With every passing day conditions are getting worse. My family didn't wanted me to get into litigation, they wanted me to go for a govt job. I was not able to clear any exam. I failed in 10, 12 exams for govt job including for the post of civil judge. I still can't believe that I failed so many times. When I was in 11th. I tried to commit suicide because I was not able to clear one of my exam & from that time I never gained my confidence. My family is not allowing me to go for the job in law firm where i'l get good salary. I want to live separately from my family with my mom & sister and want to adopt 2 baby girls. Since my sister is in last year of college I don't want to disturb her studies that's why I am not moving out. I motivate myself everyday but I am becoming a pessimistic person. I have low self esteem, a lot of anger inside me cause of my family & I cry a lot almost daily. Now I have lost my vision as to how shall I proceed further. I am not happy both at professional & personal level & getting depressed day by day. Sometimes I feel like I won't be able to fulfill my dreams & will end up as unsuccessful person. When I sleep my body rests but my mind doesn't I never feel that I was sleeping. I want to take some drink or something so that for sometime I forget in which environment i'm living, what all i'm going through. Please help!

Hi, I am 27 years old. I am an advocate from past 1 & half year. I live in a joint family & everyday is hell because ...
You are into a depression and I don’t think the home scene is helping much. You must learn to close the past and relate to the future and present. In my opinion you are not ready to adopt and should first work on your issues. I suggest you meet with a counselor and perhaps a doctor too and deal with the depression. Do not discontinue the counseling even if you are put on medication. Your life is very precious and you should never attempt suicide at any time ever. I like that you are ambitious but you must also work at fulfilling them by reasonable means. The first thing to do is to get emotionally balanced. You have an anger-related depression and therefore if you learn how to express your anger much of the depression may reduce. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. This is a better bet instead of adopting children. If you succeed in bring up the dog well then you may consider adopting. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive everyday and learn to be contended with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

What are the side effects of antidepressant? what is alternative therapy for anxiety disorder?
Hello sir, which antidepressant are you currently taking? as such every antidepressant will have its own specific side effects but in general antidepressants prescribed for anxiety disorders belong to category of ssri. They all have common side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, worsening anxiety, reduced sleep etc. Which occur only for first 1-2 weeks. After which body starts adapting & these problems disappear. Alternate therapy for anxiety disorder depends on the type of disorder you are suffering. You can get back to me for further help. Good luck.

PHD Psychology, MSC Clinical Psychology, BSC Psychology

It’s hard to quit smoking, but you can do it. To have the best chance of quitting and staying a non-smoker, you need to know what you’re up against, what your options are, and where to go for help. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) can help with the difficult withdrawal symptoms and cravings that 70% to 90% of smokers say is their only reason for not giving up cigarettes. Using NRT reduces those symptoms.

I am feeling depressed not able to trust anyone .I feel sad when I saw everyone breaking my trust . How to manage it.
The most important thing here is to share your burden with a significant other and not to keep it to yourself. Other important things are to continue to eat, drink and sleep normally and engage yourself consciously in activities that give you pleasure such as hobbies. Do not withdraw and be to yourself, that will be a terrible mistake. If still problems persist, don't worry, consult an expert. Help is only a click away!

Hello, I want to know that how I get more energetic and concentrate on my study. Any medicine is available to do so?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

There are no medicines that I know of except the ones that make all kinds of claims, which I can't. You could, however, try the following meticulously too: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

You are in an anger-related depression and need to meet with a counselor immediately and if that person feels you need to meet with a doctor too, you must do so. You must cooperate with both therapies and be consistent. I suggest that you visit these professionals along with your parents because their involvement is quite critical to your recovery. Would you know what may be causing so much anger and that you feel you cannot express it for various reasons? If it is of recent origin, you could easily pin-point it and take care of it. But I suspect that it may have to do with something in your developmental years, or your family background. In the meantime do the following, sincerely: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. Dear, do not worry. There are no known significant side effects to these medicines. You should work with your psychiatrist to get the better treatment. Please do not self diagnosis and self treat. Depression is usually treated with a combination of psychotherapy, medicines, exercise and meditation. You are already happy with the medicines. I suggest psychotherapy and other methods. If you are willing to start treatment on these aspects, let me know. Take care.

Normally marijuana or ganja does not have such results but it is commonly seen that people selling them lace it with chemicals to give a bigger kick and is very harmful. Now since you have left it, rest assured, all effects will be reversed. So. Do not worry. There is no problem now.
