"For mild sore throat, try with salt water gargles using little warm water, taking care not to use too hot water, and take pain killer if required. If you are not ok in 1-2 days, consult back. Try sending picture of your throat. If you have fever, you may need additional medicines as well. If symptoms are severe, please consult an ENT Doctor immediately. Please see that it may be more beneficial if you add honey and salt to the gargle solution. Add 1 spoon of honey and half spoon of salt to half glass of water to make gargle solution. Also, if you are s smoker, you need to quit smoking and alcohol.

Hello doctors. My question is, if a person's one nostril is close from long time and if one nostril is open then from what kind of problems he might be suffering.

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Causes are many. But common causes are 1) deviated nasal septum. 2) paranasal sinusitis. 3) nasal polyp. Or any malignant growth etc. An ent surgeon will be the right doctor to detect and treat according to the condition detected.

I am suffering from tinnitus in ear and having bone pain like knee pain and heel pain. Back pain etc.
Whistling or buzzing in the ear is getting commoner these days in people of all ages. Most common causes is wax or any object in the ear, after getting your ears clean these gets over. But if ears are already clean than this is worrisome. Common causes which are responsible are high cholesterol diet, alcohol, smoking, loud noises, cervical spondylosis, trauma (self or inflicted) over the ears. If this is the situation than report to your ent doctor immediately tinnitus is basically due to hampered blood supply to ears due to which ears start dying. As this process starts a person starts hearing noises. When a person starts hearing noises then it is already late diagnosis as these noises gets heard by someone when they are of 40 db intensity, below that threshold these noises are not heard. So it is already to late and the damage has become permanent. Problem with these noises are that we can control at what level person goes to his specialist otherwise these noises keep on increasing and can give you headache frustration and depression. Now a days tinnitus maskers are available which help you to lead your life peacefully.

Is surgery is only way to treat nasal septum deviation as my medical exam for job is due. Will that be a issue?

MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Imphal
If we talk about nasal septal deviation, probably you will find it in 90% of the general population or may be more. Surgery is required only when the deviation is causing the problem like nasal blockage on the side of deviation, frequent nasal bleed, chronic headache or sinusitis. If you have those symptoms, its advisable for surgery or else not required.

Do visit your ent a surgeon again and discuss your problem with him or her. It's seems your sense of balance controlled by inner ear is affected resulting in mild vertigo. Some manoevers are there which help correct this. If you have not had aa routine eye exam done in last 1-2 years. Get your eyes evaluated. It will rule out any refractive error or other eye problem.

I have a blocked nose every morning and sneeze vigorously 3-4 times, but by midday my nose gets fine, has been happening for a year since I moved to Kerala from Faridabad, Haryana?

MD - GENERAL PHYSICIAN
Integrated Medicine Specialist, Bangalore
Hi, I can understand your problem. You seem to have contacted allergic rhinitis. You need to avoid triggers that cause your sneezing. And you need to start taking tab. Allegra twice a day for this whenever you get this problem. Usually this is seasonal and symptoms appear perenially, but mostly heals with this medication. You should identify what triggers the sneezing and take care to keep them away, like dust, pollen, cold, fragrances, etc.
